hi all. i beleive my late model 74 fj 40 has 2 diff' diff ratios.
we mark the rear driveshaft and the wheels. 1 wheel revolution = about 3.7 driveshaft turns.
up front we get 1 wheel revo and 4.1 driveshaft turns,

i know their are 2 ratios 3.7 and 4.1, which is better

and have we done our calculation coreectly. we were sober !!

but wait can i go swapping diff heads or is this a case for the pro's to get the adjustments right.

cheers for your comments, warwick wairarapa

are you road driving or off road?? if off road just get yourself another 4.1 head and throw it in the back to match the front, if its a road bus get the 3.7 for the front to match the rear.

is it a full or semi float rear end? if semi float pop the back cover off and rotate the diff till you see some stampings on the very outside edge of the crownwheel, it will be 10x37 or something like that. if i was you i would pull the rear head out which sounds like its the 3.7-1 and drop a 4.1 in there, easy as to come by and then sell the 3.7 on trade me.

my 8c worth anyway
