Hey all.

Just wondering who is running holden v6's with and/or with out a VSS sensor? Is it worth the money? did it make a difference.

Im putting it in a road going truck so would like reasonable (respectivly) fuel economy and would like it to run well.

Also, in order to program the ecm when its dyno'd, do i need a diagnostic plug? what do they plug into when they program the ecm?

Dunno about the vss but with the diagnostic plug, if you didn't get one with the motor a holden wrecker up here sold me one for $20.
I use this site http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/ if i need to know anything for mine, and there is a thread on there about hooking the plug up to your computer and looking at what the engine's doing.

i have fitted a vr v6 that had a vss which we did not use(changed to a 700r4 auto) , made no difference to the performance or driveability, my under standing is the vss is used mainly for computer auto shift points, also looking at input revs vs output rev to get a handle on driveability and fault finding.

also the reprogrammnig of the stock ECM is done on a EEPROM machine, the chip needs to be removed to reprogram.

My trials truck is running a ecotec v6, i removed the stock ECM and fitted up a megasquirt-n-spark to drive coils and injectors, easily programmed and fairly easy to hook up, mine is supercharged so was able to readily put more fuel in and play with spark advance, removed the stock IAC valve and replaced with a 2 wire idle valve, been in for about 6 months and not missed a beat!!
