Diff oil type and volume

Post by williamhamilton »

Hi all, looking for advice on diff oil for a '74 FJ40 open diff.
What would you recommend as oil to go in and what volume should a standard diff hold? Search ORE did not bring much up so I will collate and post something if that helps.

From Ih8Mud I found (quarts measure convertd to litres):
Oil - 90 W
3.3 H42 Transmission (3.12l)
2.6 T-case (2.45l)
2.6 Front Diff (2.45l)
2.6 rear Diff (2.45l)

Buy anything from Super Cheap or Repco.. other suppliers I should consider first? I will also do fluids in a Hilux I just picked up as a safety measure so supplier info would be grand.

Just plain 90SAE gearbox/diff oil you buy from repco, supercheap or where ever will be fine, I think the diffs hold about 2.5 litres each
