hi all, have snapped three bolts on engine mount.the bolts have shared off and are still in the block . have moved everything i can out of the way but still cant get drill in to start the easy-out, have got right angle drill bit ,but still no go......is there another tool i can use, or any ideas ...... cheers

Can you get a right-angle drill in there? I've seen drill chuck attachments for angle grinders before - just a thought. Or is there a line of sight to get a very long drill bit in and have the drill outside of the body? Weld some steel rod to the end of the drill bit...

hi steve, done the right angle drill thing, no go..the welding steel rod to the end of a drill bit might be the go...cheers mate

my jeep did the same thing the way i got the bolts out is to get a nut hold it with some pliers flat to the block over the broken stud and weld the centre of the nut to the bolt to make it a bolt with a head again leave to cool down then undo the best way is to mig it as you dont have much room this works real good and relative easy i did it at work on the hoist tho

I dunno where your bolts are and what sort off access you've got but I've sometimes mannaged to wind the odd broken bolt out by tapping it around with a punch?

am going to have ago sat morning, have got a small drill that will fit, so here's hoping... have found a few more bent bits, so was a hard wee bump ..if ya out this way call in for a cold one or three.....

got them out with a close quarter angle drill, then the easy-outs...was a tight fit.........but all good Saddam........pr, was a great take off, smooth flight but a shit landing... am getting good at fixing the pos but...

I have started more and more of "anti-seize" compound on bolts that typically as PITA to remove if they snap (e.g. six bolts holding the transmission skid plate to the frame on a TJ).

Glad it worked out for you, short of taking the engine out first.

For any one reading this had the same thing happen, XJ Cherokee, right hand engine bracket, snapped the lower two bolts under hard acceleration after some rough bouncing. Stretched the third bolt to breaking.

There is not much room to get to these. You need to remove the engine mount, and bracket completely, support the engine with a block under the front right with a jack. this will allow you to jack up and down to make more room

Mine had sheared off flush or below flush and a right angle drill was just not going to fit between the chassis and block with out greif.

Answer was i used a dremmel tool with cutting blade, was amazed at its performance despite very brittl discs. I used it to cut a slot across the bolt ends for a screw driver bit. You might even have to cut slot across the block also if necessary to get down to the bolt. Put the flat driver bit into a 1/4 drive socket and rachet to get power on the slot you have cut - and they will turn out easily and without a lot of effort.

Worked a treat.
