diff code on my yn60 is G254
G=8.0"
25=4.5 ratio
4=4 pinion open

so originally it had this, but then reading some info, it was stated that sometimes Toyota got the codes wrong and to check the fins on the diff housing..
3 fins = 2 pinion
4 fins = 4 pinion

mines got 3 fins which is 2 pinion, different to what vin plate says...
Its got an l.s.d in the rear, both wheels spin same way when i jack it up, so how the hell am i to know exactly what diff ive got when its now got a l.s.d, factory came out with 4 pinion open (apparantly) but its got a 2 pinion diff housing....

Not necessarily, you can get a 4 pinion in a 3 fin case.
the 3 fin case is generally known, esp in the US as a 4cyl carrier, and the 4 fin jobbie as the V6 carrier.
Best way is to spin the road wheel one turn, and count how many times the driveshaft spins, or pull the head and count the teeh on both ring and pinion, divide ring gear # by pinion # will give you teh ratio.

sweet, will do the rotate wheel thing, gona pull out front end anyways, and strip axle/diff, since im unemployed may aswell do a bita serviceing, will do seals etc, diff drain bolt is rounded so good chance to get that out and replace, paint all the bits and hopefully fit a front l.s.d or locker if money allows

saweeet, that sites telling me, i got factory 4.5 l.s.d
where as another site told me i got 4.5 open
its deffinately l.s.d, and all references tell me i got 4.5, and they do say the code might not always be correct, so pretty damn sure its 4.5, will jack it up today or tomorrow and check d/s rotations

plan is to, fit l.s.d (tight 1) to the front, then way way way down the track get air locker for the rear :twisted:
