need to finish off rear bar of my surf, can whoever possible put up some pics of there rear bar, a view of the recovery points and how they are fixed, and how the bar is attached to the chassis. As there is no rear chassis rail just behind the tail gate. I want to see if what im doing is the same idea as the rest, and strong enough, much appreciated as i keep smacking the ass of mine and rear bar needs to be finished

if ya look real close u can see ive cut the top of the 10mm plate to scoop under the tail gate, was easyer for me tho as ive got the 3.5" body lift,ur inch wont make much difference tho,ill put some more pics up of close up mounting for ya too, hope that kinda helps

sweet man, be good to see how its mounted to chassis, im not to sure on body lift now, as i am running 33s, i only get guard rub in the front when flexing, and even then its not huge, me truck sits pretty high considereing its standard height, am getting the current springs cold pressed shortly to get an extra 2" lift, only $120 a pair. then extended shackles in the rear to level it out, im thinking that might do for now

Just wondering are you going to use a bush or bearing in the hinge for spare wheel carrier or just bolt it. looks cool.I need to do a better wheel carrier and might do high lift and shovel mount on it. like the way you have done it might have to borrow the idea.
thanks

Muddy Hilux, Is your tyre carrier locked to your rear door? With it hinging from your rear bar, I would have thought that the flex would damage your door as the body can /does flex separately to the chassis?
I am about to mount a Terrano carrier on my Surf, in a very similar way to yours but will be locking it to the rear bar so it is separate from the body to avoid any stress from flex.

lol good spoting and yeh it is,but the tailgate is trashed anyway,is bent and has been hit from behind, altho i must say ive added no damage so far from having it attached the way it is,at the time was attached like that simply cos i didnt have time but yes,my bar is yet to be finished, once it is itl have a bar on the lhs on which it will lock ,and yeh i went terrano as theyre longer, enuf for can etc, toyo ones are all short and soly for the wheel

You r the man, thats exactly what i was after, ive got much the same idea, im using the original towbar mounts to the chassis, then attatching arms similar to what you have done, hadnt thought of the box section tho like you have done, i like the idea of a detach hook aswell.

Something a bit different to look at. My towbar bolts up underneath
Gets a bit of abuse from the high lift and banks with no worries

hosehustler. did you do bodylift on your truck? to have arms that bolt up inside chassis rails and to have the bar removable, needs a bodylift. With the tailgate removed to fit/remove bar, at a guess, would need a 30mm bodylift????

No bodylift on my truck, only just removeable due to the shape of the pieces in the chassis, as it slides back I can tilt it down enough to clear the body *just*
