The Hyosung GT250R

who has one or ridden one or knows about them etc etc etc

I'm not getting any younger and have been procrastinating for too many years now.

so in the next couple of weeks I will be doing the basic handling skills course required and then trying to get the faaarking road code questions right again and get my learners bike licence.

Tell me what you know, even though I've pretty much decided on one of these anyways.

this only has 28hp , so its a good start and keeping it all legal beagle too

i got a 250 comet which i dont use

one of my mates at school had one, he said it was a bit heavy for doing wheelies but other than that it was a great bike

i could believe that, as they are a full sized bike and most learner type bikes are smaller and its still only a 250, so it doesn't overly have the power to stand on the back wheel.

talking to Stinky today and they only good for 140kph whilst ringing thier neck, so a powerhouse they ain't, but what do ya expect from a learners bike.

they are less powerful for a reason and then when you have skills, you can step up to the widowmaker style of bikes

at least I'll look cool on a bigger bike, instead of a fat bastard on a little bike

Yeah the one i rode topped out round 140. Won't spit you off though while learning i spos. Wasn't overly reliable either...had some electrics problems. I would think a Honda CBR could be better maybe?? Was a bit nicer to handle from memory.

Do they do them in shortass size for you Skid????

Go spend some time on the kiwibiker forums.

the hyosung (hyobag, etc.. do a search) does not have the best reputation for reliability, performance or (more importantly) safety. Many view them as simply a commuter/scooter with a big motor which happens to LOOK like a sports bike.

they have had some very severe issues in the past- VERY NASTY headshake for no reason- so bad that the handle bars fall off is one that i remember

IMO you should buy a second hand bike- it will have better resale and from what ive read- the potential to be a far better bike to learn on.

The ninja is supposed to be a totally awesome bike

If i was you i'd try not to spend too much money/time on the whole 250 experience. IMO atleast. They are kinda a temp solution becuase as soon as you can you'll want to buy a real bike

the problem is when ya drive all day for a living, ya just cant afford to be doing silly shit on the wrong sized bike and lose the licence

coz then ya lose ya job and theres too much of that shit going on

besides, I'm not exactly flush and wont be in a year or so when I can buy a bigger bike, so would like a decent one now that looks good and is capable enough and will go for a few more years after

although, when the full licence thing eventuates, I will probably find the money somehow

A couple i know have both...the chick got a brand new 250 ninja and he got the 250 hyosung,
from what they say the ninja is a far better bike but she waited about 5months for one on order
and the hyosung was half the price but not as good.... they are both learning so already talking about upgradeing both...

i had the rs car and box

a crr250RRRR is a cool bike
its not terribly fast BUT with a good pipe it actually sounds like a f1 car :d and that is sex by itself

Honda hornet is a very sweet bike and is very large.

same frame/ wheels etc was used on their 250/600/900 iirc.

NSR's are gay etc.

Get an aprila RS250 and fit the 500cc 2 stroke motor developed by that aus company.

dont tell anyone that the motors been changed.

litrebike speed- 250cc bike handling... and it sounds totally horn.

Nothing wrong with a 250 bandit, had one of them before I brought the SV650, then I stepped up to my SV1000S, won't look back either... love the power and it likes the back wheel as well! no wonder I keep going through them at 3 rear to 1 front!

Suzuki are my pref, but if I had to get a smaller bike I would look at the 250 hornet or a ninja as they have a good rep.

Or get ya self one of these!


The hornet's cater for the smaller people but have a wide tank as all honda's do, the ninja's are a little light bike and lots of fun as I found out one day when I had to get a service and that was the only loner they had... not the fastest thing in the world but it was fun...

anyway i,ve been on my learners for 20 years, never worried about sitting full, have never even owned a 250.
own a bike shop so ride all sorts, last time pulled over..........no wof no rego, and speeding (129 kph)
was 120 dollar fine.
