I have a 86 413 I'm replacing the uni on the front drive shaft transfer box end. and i was wondering if it is meant to have internal cerclips on 2 of the bearings and external on the other 2. if so where is the best place 2 get a new one from

Should be external on both. SJ410 unis use internal circlips as far as i know. (you might have a 410 transfer case)
Best to buy Japanese UNIs, not cheap imitation stuff. I had 2 Chinese UNIs i brought from BNT and one of them broke while trying to install.

What size was it? What kind of shaft?

Ag places are always a good bet to try as well, like Farmpart, but I haven't had anything to do with car drive shafts, yet, so don't know if theres much that matches up.

What shape is the flange on the transfer case end.
Is it square with straight sides or have shallow scallops out of the sides?
It sounds like you have a hybrid 413 Drive shaft with a 410 flange on it. (internal and external circlips on the same Uni)
I had one of these in my 413 as I was running a 410 Transfer for slightly better gearing. (baby lobster)

You should be able to get them from Repco.

Mine was the same and had to buy one for a 410 and one for a 413 and then mix and match.

Size wise the bearing cups are the same size as the normal 413.
the flange is square with straight sides at the transfer end, the small shaft from the gear box has the same style uni and flange to the transfer.
it did have a 410 gearbox till i bent the clutch selector shaft, if it does have a 410 transfer box it still hasn't got anywhere close to low enough low range.

repco had 3 types they had external or internal or they could get one in for $140

I did think of making 1 out of two but i like to have grease nipples in them the ones from repco don't have any

Definatley sounds like you have a 410 transfer case.
Does it have the 4wd light switch? (this is the transfer you want)
If it does have the switch you can do a cut and weld with 410 and 413 gears to make a 4.16 rocklobster transfer case and really lower your gearing in the future.
Just buy one 410 Uni and one 413 Uni and do both front and rear drive shafts at the same time.
Also from what i have been told the Uni's without the grease nipples are actually stronger than the ones with. No grease nipples from factory.

it does have the 4wd light switch

the rear drive shaft only has external circlips
