Finaly Geting my low volume safty cert for my safari. Hade the check the other day, all good apart from the speedo being 10% out dew to the 35" tyers. The max you can be out is 10% out (doing110kmph when speedo says 100kmph) and im right on the limite.Gote a quote from robernsen insterments to fix this $480. Has anyone else had this issue when getting a cert, if so what have you done about it?

both of my safaris went for cert with 35's on and it never came up

I did'nt need to calibrate speedo with 35s for the cert either?

You can re-calibrate your speedo yourself for whatever tyres you want to run.

Pull the instrument cluster out and remove the clear cover. Lift back the face of the speedo so you can peek inside and you'll see a small rectangular box at the top. It has a phillips head screw in the top and you need to drill a 4mm hole through the top of the cluster housing to access it. Give it a twist a bit one way and take the truck for a drive and see how it comapres to a GPS reading...adjust till its correct.

I got mine done by Whangarei Instruments and it cost $95. That was a couple of years ago but $480!!!! For LVV cert they just wanted the receipt to show it had been done.

Any Idea if something similar is the case for Toyota ones I.e my 71 series (1993) Prado?

That sounds right for Robinson Instruments.
I understand the way they usually do corrections is to cut the speedo cable and insert a gearbox that has been calibrated to correct the error.

do these have elec speedo or cable?for a cert speedo needs to be with 5%,if its a cable type call 4wd accessorys and they sell a marks adaptor box for $230,takek 2mins to put in and ur done,then if u go back to orig tyres u just remove,if u kno all this or im way off the mark sori ,just putin in my 2c

10% is the limert and the GQ safari speedos are electric.

jaycar.co.nz sell one for electronic speedos for 55.. fittd to the work hilux no dramas at all...

There are new rules and new emphasis on existing rules happening all the time. Sometimes you can get away with stuff and sometimes you can't. Jaycar kit is the least expensive and least time consuming option I know of.

i put stickers where 50 80 and 100 was on my gps. the cert man even suggested it
