'95 Terrano R3m- 4wd light flashing

Post by tmags »

Hi y'all!

Today I was driving along the motorway, and I noticed that the 4wd light in the dash was flashing, I was driving in 2wd. No other symptoms whatsoever. I turned off the mway, tested the 4wd both hi and lo and all seemed to work. Only when I switched the engine off and on did the light stop flashing. Then all semed fine for a couple of hours, but then it started again.
Any ideas??

Have a 97 Regulas and are having the same problem
seems to be road and speed conditions, but can not be sure as it dose not happen when driving on gravel roads

It will be an electrical connection somewhere I suspect. Try locating the sender unit on the transfer case and get it tested.

4Wd light flashing

Have you put new tyres on it lately? If you have but only two and still have older warn ones on that could be the problem? Only comes on on the open road, not around town. Difference in tread between tyrers confuses the onboard computer. Well, that was the problem when it happened to my 96 3.2 diesel Terrano. New tyres all round and it went away (not the pain from my wallet! that hurt!)

Yep, I reckon you're dead on there! I did have new tires at the time. Now that they're more worn it doesn't happen as often, but it still comes on every now and then. But I do think you're right. Since last I've also bought the manual, and according to the intervall of the light it is indeed the wheel sensor.

4 new tires?? There goes my trip back to the old country...
