project redneck ln65 1uzfe

Post by j_tomo »

hey all
im jeremy from the west coast of the south island
a coulpe of years ago i had a ln61 surf and loved it!
33's lsd ect i got sick of the 2.4 the 1st day i had it so out it came and in went a 3L out of a hiace with a ln130 turbo kit, went allright but still cost me around 3k so bang for buck it was quite dissapointing
so it got sold

now ive aways liked the hillbilly trucks f150's blazers big tyres bullbars rollbars with spot lights ect
ill never be able to afford one so ill build something simmilar

id like a ln106 but their fricken dare and id just wreck it anyway lol
over new years i came across a cheap ln65 double cab GREAT!!!
then spent 3days removing rust NOT SO GREAT!!!
after the 3 days and finding more rust and a severly pitted chassis i figured theres got to be an easyer way
so i asked around and found a tidy cab chassis and well side- cheers chopper!!!

THE PLAN
1uzfe out of a uzs131 crown- sitting at work had it running, standard ecu
r150f gearbox custom flywheel , bellhousing and engine mounts from kelvin at the car tune company
lsd up front and locker in the rear
2" body and 2" suspention lift
vzn130 hand brake/ fuel tank
35" simex's
tidy up and respray the cab/chassis

just waiting for my knee to heal up so i can drag my sorry arse back to work and take some pics of everything

lots of pics and details for all you wh@#$s out there

Sounds like a good project.

I used a 3L V6 petrol tank and dash cluster to get tach working and used the in tank pump which runs the motor fine.

Is the R150 the V6 box or the diesel box? The diesel one has a better shift position and transfer case apparently.

havnt figured out a rev counter yet, i hear yn6# will do
i might go for a bigger tank i cant see 50 odd Litres lasting long, maybe bmw5/7 serries and mount it under the rear of cab
the R-15# is out of a ln130 92 modle, i dont know if its a r-150f or r-151f

does anyone know what modle R box comes out with a gear type trasnfer

hey man i'm not sure on the V6 tanks but the KZN130 ones from the 3.0 turbo's are 74 litre tanks. Also toyota never made an "R" sreies box with a gear type transfer. They are all chain drive. R150's have different ratio's to the R151's. As far as i'm aware the 151's came out of the 3.0TD surfs and the 150's are out of 2.4TD. From memory the the 151's run a lower 1st gear compared to the 150's.

i assume you will be going rears in the front to move the axle forward? or you will not fit 35's with enough clearance. also high steer i'd say.
Ill be watching with interest

now im stuck!!! you see in the last pic that the release leaver is hard back
i fitted the flywheel so the ring gear has the same spacing from the starter motor as the flexi plate did, think i used the small shim
even still the release lever flops either way, no where near the pressure plate
the boss man was saying in trucks you can get a short or a long release bearing (long type has a sleeve ect) do toyotas have a similar type of set up?

My 1UZ has an adaptor plate on the auto bellhousing which means the input shaft doesn't quite reach the flywheel.

There is a sleeve made up which has the spigot bearing sitting about 10mm further out than normal and the release bearing has a large sleeve around it which I presume takes up the additional slack.

When I replaced the clutch I couldn't find a release bearing on the same style sleeve so just pressed off the old bearing and reused the sleeve.

yea at the moment its high, but with all panels 1uz-r151f it will sag
its good to work on at the moment, i can crawl under and sit up ect
its roughly 210cm high (roof) and the rear diff measures 180cm at the widest point.
also its got a ln61 wide diff in in the rear, will be using ln61 front hubs also

heres a pic of the vzn130 surf tank mounted in the rear,
I had to trim the sides of the tank and relocate the cross beam that holds the spare wheel

Image

now im having trouble mounting the land cruiser 3core radiator
I think its too tall, even with a 3" body lift
I cant mount it down between the engine and front cross member as the hoses wont work (core's too thick)
so ill have to mount something ontop of the crossmember
heres some pics to show what im working with

anyone got any ideas? surely something will fit in there
there is a 'bit' of room to work with

and heres a pic of the parts truck
if you want a part p'm or txt me

I squeezed a cruiser radiator down between the frame rails in my 1UZ LN130.

The bottom outlet I had reworked to come up the side of the radiator about halfway up.

Was close to pulley's etc but still cleared. Bought the factory rubber mounts from Toyota then made my own brackets to hang it.

Search on trademe, there are quite a few places that do 1UZ bits.

A1 Turbo's, Choke on the Smoke Racing, and others.

Hi there
yea I got mine from a1 turbos, he goes under morrie on trademe
flywheel was from bnt
clutch ln106 hd
the release bearing was an odd thing, like usdm tacoma v6

there isnt a great deal to update
spent the last month installing a gtt caldina motor in my st185
their great lil motors,
basic, no tvis, individual coils and a kick arse turbo= 265hp standard

the drz400 got a rejet, whitebros muffler and a smaller rear sprocket, does 2nd gear wheelys with out too much effort now lol
