torsion bars and ADD

Post by Petemcc »

TRUCKS WITH ADD
Trucks with the ADD system (Toyota's Automatic Differential Disconnect System) have axle shafts that turn whenever the truck is in motion, even in 2WD, unless manual hubs have been installed. This unnecessary shaft turning can cause premature wear of the drive shaft boots especially in trucks at or near the 15" fender to rim limit. If your truck is equipped with ADD and does not have manual hubs, I recommend that you set your torsion bars to a maximum of 14" fender to rim

Yup, I have a view or two... (gosh, how unusual :P)

You use it for 4WDing... its not a shopping trolly. Boots are cheap, and changing them is an excuse to drink beer in the drive with your mates.

You may or may not ever wear a boot out.

Replacing complete CV shafts from a wrecked truck may be faster and easier and possibly cheaper.

There you go

Oh, my point to the above, which I forgot to make...

Lift it to where you want it and just maintain it in that position. don't let the truck rule you, you rule the truck. If you can't lift it to where you want it then change it so you can, or get another truck :)

Simple really... so there you go... buy a grinder and a welder and before you know it there will be no IFS, no ADD and no problem  Helpful, huh?

really, just ignore useful advice like that... its designed for low maintenance trucks used by wifes of rich CEOs to take their kids to school in. Lift it to suit the back as best you can while not going over the safe margin of out-travel from rest and just do the maintenance if/when its needed.
