$500.00 Rock

Post by bigandrew »

The events began late on sunday afternoon while while driving down the waimak in front of a SupraHilux (just the two of us) me first in my near standard surf as if i got stuck the SupraHilux could winch or pull me out.

Crossing shallow Water i lost traction in the lose base and needed to be pulled out of the waters current which wasnt to deep.

The SupraHilux then magically blew its front diff only 2 metres from my location and then its rear only minutes later while trying to manover in 2WD. Once realising that my surf was the only vechical capable of moving i continued to drive it back and forward trying to find better grounding only to go further in the rivers current and totally flood my truck.I turned it off and waited for help which luckily bill came to the resuce as he was one of few numbers on my 021 since i found my 027 under my drivers seat! Good buy to a $900 phone

IceJono and Matt4u came to the resue and managed to pull myself out and drag the SupraHilux to shore, where i noticed that my engine was running very rough and and had a flashing glow plug light.

Once home and doing routine checks the radiation seemed to splash all its water out from either viabration or back presure, the gearbox was full of water, and the engine oil got changed just in case. Diffs were fine.

Yet she still was running very rough and viabrating oddly in neutral and at low revs(idling @ 500 RPM). Suspected that possibly i had got water in the engine and caused some damage so first thing next mornng i delivered it to my mechanic, who thought from the first moment he heard her that i had hydrauliced my engine.

The compression test returned perfectly, possibly the timing belt had slipped a notch, so off came that! No thats all good he said, so he checked the engine mounts and when the engine was lifted the viabration resovlved. Engine mounts were replaced and i picked it up and paid $500.00 to find that it was no better and left very low drumming noise in your air still when idling. Bring it back tomorrow.

When home, i discovered a semi large rock about 10cm in diameter wedged very tightly behind my transfer case, :) , out came the hammer and pole!!! And 2 seconds later all solved, very nicely hidden even i didnt see it when doing the gearbox oils.

Now that FN ROCK!!!
