New product: pusher strop... field testing on MU

Well, went out the other day and tested the new pusher strop to near destruction... found it even works well up hill pushing Hiluxes (note how upset Rik looks since his Hilux got stuck on a boring flat piece of ground).
Nothing at all to do with not enough slip on the front driveshaft and it popping out during the ascent... note: the SECOND ascent where there was no track... first time it went up perfectly, and the truck is proving to be a bit of a weapon... just a couple of bugs to sort out...
The front shaft was about 30mm separated, so I might have to borrow Conans one

Well, probably I'll get one machined from some tractor PTO spline, since you can buy that by the metre...

Threadjacker! :enforcer:
Its all about the MU! Not the Hilux
Where are all the MU shots huh? And thanks for not mentioning the real reason the driveshaft popped

Those two girlies watching us causing me to (as the wife so elloquently puts it) 'cock-flop' and nail the throttle where I should have just crawled up

PS: photos of REAL 4WD to follow, just gotta get them off the camera

Hey Padero... I know of a big MU for sale... gotta make room for a new project
I think the best starting point for a 'big truck' as you put it would be a Hilux ute... bang for buck and ease of modification...
Or SAS a... well, SAS about anything. I'm thinking of a 96 (new shape) terrano next, just to see how it would go with a Hilux booster under it
Oh, and I've already discussed the cow paintjob at length with a panel and paint shop... just going to be too damned expensive. Nice idea tho... was going to call it the MOO MU

Was staring down the barrel of $3k to 4k just to paint it white or black, then spray some white or black random spots on it... reckoned there would be $800 or so in paint alone...
Still, if I can find a wrecked black one and swap all the major panels over then there isn't much left to paint so it still might happen...

Thats because its bullshit

They are just claiming the river as their own so no one but their own clients in their 4wd farm tours can see the river. big debate about it on at the moment

Don't do that... DB will be after you... or hiding from you... one or the other
Yeah, the gorges on the rivers in Canterbury are all kinds of scenic splediferous fun (big words... no idea what they mean

) Ashley gorge is a beast... deep water, big rocks, crazy angles... lotsa fun.
I haven't been up the Waipara in a while but it is very "girly" up there... I'm interested to know more about this supposed blockaded part... surely the river is open access? I'm happy to join the fight over that one. All over the country our space is being methodically and systematically erroded... I didn't build this truck to drive to the mall... although at least parking won't be a problem

Or is there a fine for parking on a car... or a person
And EF, thanks for the praise... not bad for tin cans, eh?

I'm pretty pleased with it myself... came out better than I had hoped for although its still a little vague in the on-road handling department... I'm going to put a leaf back into each front pack and fire one or two steering dampers in the front (REALLY bad headshake when you drive at speed and hit a bump).
Tony - yeah... people ARE noticing the truck... especially the cop who pulled me over last night... he noticed my big tyres... he noticed my reg was out, he noticed my WOF was out... sigh... I noticed my wallet a bit lighter this morning... All because I was too tired to finish Riks truck so decided to give him a ride home and do it tomorrow instead... Might go back to driving the blue bomb for a week till its legal again... Must say tho... the cop gave me a discount... only the reg, decided that I was being nice about it and let me off the WOF... damn decent of him really
Parking on a car
Theres a few more pics here... they're a bit big cos unlike Rik I don't photoshop mine to make them impressive

so if you've got dialup you don't have to wait so long...

Anyway... must go finish the crossover hi-steer in Riks truck.... I need someone to pull out down the Waimak

Hi Steve
nice professional job.
I would love to know how much Castor you are running, why not slip a couple of wedges between the springs and diff and retest for the shakes.

Thanks, yeah a full whel alignment is a job for next week... I'm sure that will help too. I have wedges, but until I get it checked I don't really want to start trial and error work, it takes up too much time...
Cheers

Nice job steve, it would be a shame to sell it woundn't it??? you have just made it into the mu club, why leave again!!!!
How much you looking at for her??

Oh, I won't be leaving... probably going to do a Wizard on coils next - more useful as a family 4WD.
If I sold it, I would want $12k for it, which may or may not be reasonable - I don't mind... its not really for sale, but if someone really wanted it... well... if they came up with the cash... well, you know... opportunities to do new projects and all that

For me its not the having, its the building
It should be cert'd in the next few weeks... not quite as quick as I planned, but there are still a few tidy ups to do, and things like balance reports on driveshafts to assemble etc. Noticed my wee blue bomb WOF runs out mid-feb, so I figure I need to have the MU sorted by then.
