2l lux, Swap 5l short block??

Hey guys
Can a 2lt head go on a 5l in a 86 hilux? i got a mate who put a new head on his 2lt but its smokey as and put it down to the old block, but thinking can we swap the block, will the bolt on match and will the bellhouings match? engine mounts??
