Auto and Manual diff's

Hi,

I have another Safari that was an auto and I am going to do a motor and gearbox swap I have a question about the diff ratios though. I also have a little something for the front but want to make sure that I am not wasting time.

Is a difference between diff ratios with Auto's and Manual's?
The tag on the truck reads : Trans Axle RE4R03A HG41

I have heard that there is a difference but am unsure.

Cheers
Reece

Well that is what I thought too but I have heard differently, that is why I am asking the question...

Thanks for the reply though, it has kinda confirmed something that I thought...

The petrol and desiel's had different ratios

HG41 means it is an 'H' series centre.
'G' means solid axle.
41 means it is a 4.11 ratio

Most are 4.11 except petrol auto's are 3.9, (HG39)
leaf sprung and budget models are 4.3, (HG43)
2.8 desiel and 3.0 petrol are 4.625 (HG46)

And then there are always a few odd balls that don't fit the normal specs.

These 4.62 diffs

I've seen them on 4wdbits.. for 1400ish for front and rear..

Do people just buy them because its hard to find 2.8 diesels being wrecked?

Yip. 4.6 diffs are quite rare.

LSD carrier from terrano rear well fit in to front GQ diff head,I beleave the gears from the terrano wont fit the GQ diff head.
My friend chased this up last week(I though the D21 rear would fit)and the gears not close at all according to him.

You just use the terrano LSD center.

Use the safari carrier/gears

Terrano R&P do fit with a small amount of machining. It has been done before.

so how much would a set of 4.62 diffs be worth, i have a set out of my 2.8 safari that i may be getting rid of if i swap the motor out

Why would you egt rid of the 4.6's if you are keeping the truck?
With 35's it is the same gearing as 31's and 4.1's.
