Hi all.

I have a 93 vitara SWB and i want to put the 2.0L V6 (H20A) out of similar vehicles. is it a simple conversion, ie just taking out the old engine mounts and getting the right ones in? same fittings and all?

it currently has a G16A carb motor and to the V6 i am planning on fitting an S15 silvia turbo, That will be a bit of work though.

also what about the gearbox?

any help or advice is very much appreciated

The H20 motors really are boat anchors, you would be better off with a inj. 1600 or a J18 or J20 (4 cylinder zook motor) the H25 was better than the H20 but still not the greatest motor....Or do what i did and go for a decent V6

so what would you suggest to use then? What about a 3.5L V6 from a Mitsubishi or something?

As Mr O said the 2.0 v6 was not a great performer , there are arguments as to how good it is on both sides but everyone agrees the 2.5 v6 is a much better motor and since its the same size practically that would be the better option .

It will be a tight fit , I have been told the gen 2 vitaras were wider in the chassis to fit the v6 . I have not measured one to confirm it thou . And you would need the v6 gearbox to match the engine or make an adapter of some sort , not really worth it if you are going to fork out for the engine may as well get its gearbox .

I would stick with your plan of a turbo but use a J series engine , J18 ( out of a fwd baleno ) or J20 out of the 2.0 4 cly vitara . These will bolt up to the G16 gearbox , there will be some work getting a clutch and spigot bearing to fit but easier that making an adapter . Just new mounts and you are away . These are distributorless engines so no dizzy in the firewall issues if you use a fwd engine .

I mentioned the J18 as you may be able to pick one up cheaper but it is only 1800cc .

The V6 suzuki's are wider...I have put a 3.8L holden v6 in mine but its a bit over kill unless your going to change your diffs

The engine bay in the V6 or 2.0L 4-cyl vitaras are also slightly longer than the 1600s. If you try shoehorning a 2.0V6 or 2.5V6 into a 1600 you will have issues with the radiator mountings.

Best advice IMHO is what the guys have already said, go for a j-series motor.
