I'd also like to help Tom (Escudogirl) out by machining him up a set of body lift spacers.

can anyone here give me some measurements/link to a DIY or something showing measurements?

He's a bit low atm... as shown by this pic.

Image

Thats a rock under his sill.

Just off the side of the picture is 3 out of 4 people laughing their asses off.

Tom was the one not laughing

Anyway.

If there is anyone in here other than us 3... I need some answers before i can help your sorry ass

I got under toms truck earlier tonight and had a perv at the rear A arm setup. I think Tom had a perv at me while i was lying there. Probably better than tom getting under the truck too. Hang on.. does an escudo pass as being a "truck"?

Definitions of truck on the Web:

* an automotive vehicle suitable for hauling

Definately a car.

Where was I......

Oh yeah. Had a look at the upper A arm on Toms rear axle. He mentioned that there needs to be a spacer made. I'm guessing its just a flat plate with 4 holes drilled?

Does anyone have some measurements between holes and thickness that his plate should be?

Toms a broken ass student (and i know what thats like!) so im trying to help out as much as I can with making the thing capable.

first of all read through the cheap vitara lift thread on here, i did all of my mods for basically no money :D . do the springs and rear shocks, flip the top mounts of the front struts, remove sway bars, dont worry about the spacer on the a arm , i tryed it and found i lost travel on my ramp, dont worry about lowering your diff as you dont need to.remove the brackets that hold the hand brake cable to the rear arms until you can get some 5dr cables, even the std auto hubs will put up with a lot of abuse until you can get some manual ones, any thing else just ask,

i never changed the actual brake line as it attaches to the diff near the centre, if you do a bit of 4x4ing around water ,runny mud you will need to clean your rear drums all the time or convert to discs, i got sick of replacing my rear shoes every couple of hundred ks and disconnected them in the end, mine was off road only and had locked diffs front and rear so the brakes still worked good enough.cheers

Wont the A arm end up sitting down on a really queer angle? Its quite short.....?

Is it possible to bind up the A arms ball joint when you lift it and its forced through too much of an angle?

I'll read through the cheap lift thread and work out what else we need to do :)

I had to put in a spacer because after the suspension lift the a arm ball joint was knocking/over extending on small bumps on the road. Would expect it to break off over moderate terrain. The first one was a block of engineering plastic but I didn’t like the long bolts used to run through the spacer so I made this one. Two pieces of flat with square tube between. The spacer should be as high as the spring lift. Need a large hole in the top plate to allow for the ball joint nut.

thanks :-) thats what i'd have expected- snapping ball joints. Does anyone have dimensions for that square? I just need distances between holes.

you wont snap the a arm joint, i tryed a spacer but found i lost travel on my ramp so i took it out, 3 years of hard off road abuse and it was still sweet, 2 other off road scudos in our club are the same and have had no trouble, build a ramp and try every mod you do cause some work some dont, on a swb you can get 620-630mm under one wheel and have other 3 on ground on a lwb you should get more, need pics of your flex, cheers vaughan

right now flex is poor....(thats an understatement actually, lol!)

In the video is doug (swamped) and escudoboy. It got pretty stuck going downhill into this hole.

A locker or LSD would do HUUUUGE things for it.

Toms having trouble finding V6 springs for the front- anyone know of a set kicking around?

I understood that you can use cut springs as long as they remain captive during the full suspension movement range??

OK, so.

Tom is just about to buy a body lift kit off trademe. Its 25mm (1", duh) and appears to be just a set of 6 plastic spacers.

Is it true that a set of 1" body lift spacers does not require anything else to get things working? factory bolts/washers/nuts are all used?

If so- Flag paying 150$ + postage, tom.

I've got the next 3 weeks at tech but once im back at work i can rip you out a set for $100 from uhumpe (Ultra high molecular weight polyetheline or something... All i know is that its real hard, lol!)

So work out what that kit includes and I'll help you save some student allowance.

the idea of 1" is that u can use the standard bolts, and i think u need ten blocks tho dont quote me on that
