You can just bypass the heater tap if you can't find one. You don't strictly need the heater tap, I think it is there to help the engine warm up faster if you aren't using the heater. Without a tap, coolant will always flow through the heater core though I don't see that being a problem.

The actual control of airflow is done with the ducts and vents under the dash, so even if the heater core is always flowing coolant you won't get hot air until you select it.

thanks for the suggestions guys...

after phoning about 20 places around the country i have managed to find one... even toyota don't make them anymore. their price was $199+gst... crazy. i can get one for $55+gst. prob worth replacing it. i need to do a flush of the cooling system too as is a bit brown... anyone got any pointers on how to do that? i have a fair idea but am no expert and don't wana cause more problems with my truck...

also, the cable from the control to the heater tap if you like is all twisted and is stuck on cold. without replacing the cable, as i bet those are hard to find also, is there anyway to set it to hot so it is stuck on hot? with the snow season coming up is probaly a good idea... :D
