Beadlocks:
Obviously there is alot of interest in them.
Steel surgeons in Manukau do 36 bolt for $135 incl per rim
Howats in Wellytron do them $110 plus per rim
Both of the above are unfinished, there is some grinding and polishing required before tyres and tubes can be fitted, and then they also need painting or powdercoating.
4WD bits sell a complete finished rim for $500ea
So for us up north, its probably cheaper to go to manukau, as shipping 4 rims to wellington and back wouldn't be especially cheap.

those prices would be for you supplying the rims too aye
as for freight, the ORE/4WD courier system seems to work although, 4 rims is a bit bulky and heavy.

Yep, supply your own rim's.
About $90 each at the moment for a 15 X 8.
I reckon its worth picking up a shitty set off trademe, they gonna get cut and welded, the powder coat burned etc, so your going to have to clean them up and repaint/powdercoat them any ways, so not worth getting shiny new one's??

thats what I did
paid $2 for 4, 8" rims, took em to howies, got them back and then got the rims and the rings powdercoated .
cost me $712 all up, so $178 per rim, but I got the hell bargain on my 8" rims off tardme

Rob (robo) is just round the corner from Brians, maybe see what he can do a set of rims for?, he can organise getting them beadlocked thru howie, if you want them blasted and painted Graham (Blackdeath) is in welly as well, then all you need to worry about is 1 x freight Welly to ....

Hey Pete, if im ever in the area and you need shit moved about I maybe able to help considering I work from Welly to BOP to New Plymouth and still squirt bak to Hamilton every few weeks but remember im now based out of Palmy but currently living in Masterton. I got trailers going up and down constantly dragging my own shit around!!

I got mine done at Swages Engineering in Akld, $120 per rim, I supplied the rim.
15x10 were $120 ea I think, powdercoat was $15 per rim, goldy/yellow zinc the ring was $5 each, $55 for each tube, $600 for each tire... $915 per wheel.... x5 wheels....$4575 worth of rolling stock, Holy crap!!, didnt seem that dear at the time....

Anyone know if these companies do anything for 16" rims?
I've required at a few places and had no luck (they were producing ready to weld kits for not much less than the assembled price listed here!!!!)

I just use Staun internal beadlocks (from any ARB agent).
They hold my tyres on and you can fit them to alloys is you want!
Lighter, hold both beads, really easy to balance etc. The down side is if you don't keep the beads clean (ie maintenance) then the beadlock will puncture and the tyre will fall off!
I ue to use externals but won't ever go back!

I would reccomend to support Howatt, been there to support the 4x4s for a long time , others have landed like blow flies hoping to get a feed, freight is no problem through the ORE couriers, just my thoughts

Ive just done 2 sets of 16inch beadlocks for customers and actual production costs were pretty much the same as doing 15"s.
If you have access to a big enough lathe and know/are a competent with a mig welder, you should be able to knock some up relativly cheaply

Our bead lock rims are relatively expensive compared to prices quoted. Swages were doing beadlocks for $200 about 3 years ago on a supplied rim. Our rims are also sand blasted completely clean and re powder coated, use steel and bolts required to meet LVVC rules.There is a small difference in cost between 15 and 16 inch rims and in our case the difference in cost of the rims.

The big advantage with your rim's is that they are a finished product, ready to bolt straight on, no running round town taking them here, dropping them there while you get sand blasting done, the powdercoating etc etc.
The extra is pretty much worth it for the "Hand over the $$, fit ya tyres, beadlocks owwwwn" factor

Make sure when you get the rims made that you specify what type of tyres you will be running. The bead thickness varies a bit through different brands. If the bands aren't parted to the right thickness then you wont get a good lock and tyres will still spin.

If the beads thinner dont you just tighten the bolts more to bring the outer ring in closer to the inner ring ( so that the gap between the two rings is less with the thinner bead than the gap between rings when clamping a thicker bead)

In theory thats the plan but if the ring outer ring is welded with to bigger spacing to the outter edge of the band (if that makes sense) then the rings can bottom out against each other before clamping fully.
For example i think a Wrangler is 12mm bead if then the rim and band are sitting against each other and the gap bettween is more that 12mm you wont get any clamping effect however some tyre beads are wider such as a maxxis which would clamp effectivly.

For a road legal beadlock, the two bead flanges must clamp completely together with some significant pressure when the bolts are torqued correctly. It is a very fine tolerance: to little and the flanges will move leading to bolt fatigue and failure; to much means too little bead clamp potentially resulting in punctured tubes.
Some tyres have equal thickness beads, for example Simex and Silverstone (barring manufacturing tolerances) are interchangable on the same beadlocks.

there are a few guys here in the manawatu running staun, the very latest ones have a new designed air pouch that stops the earlier air valve rubbing issues... all the guys i know running them have no issues, and they dont need to be certed...

my friend got some of the staun ones,first time out and all 4 inner tubes got puntured.you have to take the shape edge off the tyre were the inner belt/tube touches/pushes on the tyre.I guess some tyres are worse than others,theses were creepys.(not happy)nothing in instrustions about that but it is on there website at the bottom so I'm told.he had to buy 4 new tubes.

2nd hole in a rim needs a cert, you would get away with it for wof, but if you were in an accident it's an easy way out for insurance

they dont need to be certed, we have a cover letter from LVVA stating that they are happy with the second hole and that it isnt an issue for cert, if anyone with stauns fitted is having greif you can PM me for a copy.....

i asked my cert guy this 6 months ago, he said they need cert, if this is changed now, "sweet", makes 1 less thing to worry about
