Roll cage pics please

We want to fit a roll cage to our MU. We need to keep the back seats for the kids.

It doesn't sound like we can fit an internal cage keeping the back seats and get it certified. Though I have heard they don't require certification if you don't change the factory seat belt mounts.

Looking at the exo cage option. I'm not sure how it would work in with a snorkel, maybe take the snorkel up through the bonnet??? Or use a portion of the cage as a snorkel??? Any ideas would be cool, it's pretty hard for MU owners getting info, as few have been thrashed offroad. Pics of cages would be good too. Robyn.

i wouldnt be putting a internal cage in if you have kids
if you do have a accident round town etc and there not wearing helmet's ......

exo is the way to go

closest thing you could do without a cert is a "cargo barrier" behind the rear seats

Thats what we are thinking, the cert measurements are there for a reason right. Safety is the most important factor. Do you need cert for a exo, or is it like sidebars and roof racks?

Any rollcage must be certified however a very strong roof rack doesn't! The same as a cargo barrier doesn't need a cert but a rollbar does. You just need to be specific about what you are doing.

Darinz thats exactly what our cert guy said. He said we can put a rollbar behind the back seat 100mm from seat-ceiling projection line, but cannot diagonal brace it. So it would fold up in a bad rollover. Can't cert any internal cage without removing the back seats and all exo's must be certed. But cargo barriers and roof racks OK.

I know the damage doesn't look to bad, but the cage has been pushed into the body and the body has a 3" twist in it that comes out on the passengers side. (ie, it is well buggered). I had a cross brace that was minus one bolt, and that allowed the mount to severely distort and the cage to move side ways.
This was a low speed roll (About 30-40 kph) but the front of the truck was about 8 feet up in the air and it came down and landed completely on it's side.
If it weren't for the cage, I would hate to think what the damage and injuries would have been.

Don't forget you can use removable braces to get the strength when offroad but maintain legality and usablity. All rollcage specs have specs for a removeable joint for this purpase.
I have also seen diagonal braces on exo cages, you just need to think about it. I've seen a GQ with a diagonal that went through the back window so when in the window wouldn't close but when out the back seat was usable. Not ideal from a strenth point of view but a hell of a lot better han nothing.
