Waitangi Weekend: sunday or monday: Conway River

Post by albundy »

Hi guys, planning a waitangi weekend trip either sunday or monday, depending on what people want to do. Going to do the conway river from the Inland rd down to the beach. It would mean an early start if it was a day trip or we could camp out the night if people want. Last time we left in the afternoon camped halfway down and got home about three the next day. It could be all done in a day. It would be weather dependent as the river will swell quickly with rain. Grade 4-5 snorkels essential. Good challenging river for those that like rivers. Usual rules: rated tow hooks and basic recovery gear including tow rope, 20 metre preferably as the river can be wide. If your a defintie PM me for my contact details.

I'm gathering that you are all busy or all chicken, which is it. This is an excellent trip. Go on step outside the comfort zones.

Sorry, I'm washing my hair that weekend :D

Actually, I don't know if I can make it but it sounds like fun. I'll let you know but it'll be closer to the date.

Cheers

That's better. Good to hear that you and your old man are still around Will, be good to catch up. Anyone wanting passenger seats, I'll have one going. Should have put a poll at the start to see what people wanted, day or overnighter. Mike can you sort that for an anti computer guy.

Trucks should all be wof'ed and rego'ed as it would not be a good look for ORE members to be busted without them on a trip. Only gives the anti-4wheelers more ammo and the cops more reason to take an interest.

Well Matt, if you go back to my orginal post I ask the question: do people want a day trip or overnighter. Me: don't care but a piss up would be great. Ricky: he is keen for the piss up too. Tim: doesn't care what, going with the flow. Will and Bill: overnighter, Bill depends if his "ground anchor" is going by then, but will do an overnighter. Are you up for the piss up or do you just want to do a daytrip? Are you allowed out with the boys   Anyway, all jokes aside, what do you want to do.

Trip leader decision: overnighter pissup
Reason: it's monday and already my week is shit, and it's only going to get much worse.
Plan: got shit to do on saturday, so lets meet at the Belfast pub were we usually meet for a 2pm departure on sunday. We will stop off in Wiau for a beer then hit the trail. Spend a couple of hours in the river bed and set up camp. It will take a little effort to get firewood, in the sense that we need vehicles to travel afar. I will ring the publican of the local pub to see if the river is up, but doubt it. He was good for info last time. So far I have got Me, Tim, Will and Dad, Ricky, Matt(how about we meet you at the Waiu pub :?: ), that's five trucks. Looking good, if I have missed anyone, apologies, please correct me. This is going to be one good piss up  . Anyone taking passengers :?:

Wifes away on a business trip, so I can't come without bringing bubs... and I'm not having my three year old trying to figure out you lot all pissed up a river somewhere  to much to explain :P

So accept my apology I won't be able to make it. Might spend the weekend making a new front driveshaft instead. Have fun, take photos... especially of Rik drunk cos the world needs to know the truth :P

Ok, for the sake of the boys' nightly entertainment, will we postpone. What time can you be at the Lewis pass turnoff nth of amberly Rik as that's what time we will meet you there? I'll get the boys to meet 45 mins prior to that at the pub. Matt how low is this river supposed to be as I have a guy in a deisel terrano that is keen to come? Would like to put my mind at ease knowing he won't hydraulic it. As for photos of Rik pissed, ugly site, been there and am still having post traumatic stress counselling.
