Range Rover Wheel options?

Hi all,
This might seem like a dumb question to most of you, but here goes anyway....
Background:
We are looking at buying an early 80's Range Rover with large Mud Terrain tyres on it.
I would not be keen to use these tyres/wheels for everyday on-road use due to excessive tyre wear and poorer on-road handling characteristics.
The idea is buy a second set of tyres/wheels for on-road use keeping the others for playing off-road ...
.... now the Question:
Besides the same vehicle, what other makes/models of vehicles rims will fit on an early 80's Range Rover?

Rangie wheels are the same as a lot of other landrover products but not much else. Fortunately there are lots of them floating about from people upgrading their rims to suit mud tyres. Try Jules at two offroad
http://www.twooffrd.iwarp.com/ he normally has a few sets with tyres on going cheap. Other good places would be any landrover specialist, landrover parts places and landy clubs. If uyou look around you can get some dirt cheap.

I happen to have 5 original Rangie wheels with 3/4 worn AT's that I would let go for around $400ish

I understand the early rangies are 5.5" PCD with 5 stud, which happens to be the same as Large Fords (F-100's Transit etc), Suzuki, daihatsu, lada and a few other obscure brands Kia sportage etc. You would have to check offsets.

All Classic Rangies (1970-1994) have the same stud pattern as the Landrover Discovery (Series One) and 90/110 (Defender).
Alloys for these are fairly pricey so shop around.

Just how large is large?
What rims are the large tyres on at the moment?

I have reversed Disco rims on mine, not the cheapest way to go but you can set them up with the offset you require to suit your RR & tyre combo. Mine were about $55 a rim to have split & reversed. Have it done by a pro then there are no cetification issues. With the extra 50mm offset the 255x85's don't scrub at all at full lock and the added track helps!

Project Rangie (Sam Parkers one) has these same wheels on it now. Disco steels - reversed. Hes got the AT tyres on it for the road, and getting another set of me for his Simex's. I think Mike at Swages Engineering in Mt Wellington does the cut and reverse at a reasonable price. Thought about it for my Disco, but have scored 2 sets of wide spoked rims so will see if they work without too much guard chopping
