Calmini kit pricing

Post by Gher »

Anyone know how much I would expect to pay for a 3" calmini lift kit here in NZ? Is this a good kit? Alternatives?
thanks

Hey Turtle... thought you had dissapeared... you still planning on coming down this way? If you want to see the MU running you better get down here before I do too much more 4WDing at hirikluxs new place, nearly rolled it today :P

Whats the go with the calmini kits? Are they just a 2" lifted spring and longer shackles or are they a properly engineered lift kit? My Maxitrac stuff lists a 'Zuk 2" lifted spring, but I've never really played with them... too small for me :) (6'5", damn near too big for most things :P )

Whats in the kit, and what do they cost? Its quite possible myself or another of the local NZ 4WD engineering firms could custom make something a lot cheaper - buy NZ :) There are a few custom Zuks on here, Chris' (Rotazuk) one springs to mind... he seems to know them quite well:

Hope that helps

hey Sup....got lost on the north island 4 a while with no net access....coming to the south on the 10 of mar. pm me i 'll hook up with ya beers on me....
you guys definatley have the right idea and there are many ways that u can do it cheaper and but NZ
1) u guys seem to like the coil suspension....so.... u can start by robbing parts from the sidekick (escudo here not the jimny) 91-95 will prob be the best years to robb from. :frighten:
2) i'm a leafer 4 life...i''ve never had a problem with my leafs...and i beat the sh*t out of them as those who have been to the canadian carnage page would know....if u use the proper suspension parts the flex more than most people even know how to use....plus its a hell of a lot cheaper then getting into the coils.
3)i notce that kiwis love their yotas.....personally i think they r high maintenance but they 4x like hell....using the leafs from these will give u an extra couple of inches on your spring over( if u ask me u might as well use the whole axle...more parts 4 them in this cuntry)....with the newer sam's u can just stuff them in ...but seeing as how the 413 is a bit skinnier?? u might have to relocate yer perches....plus it will eliminate any chance off rolling on the roads...on the dirt that depends on how hardcore u are....now would be a good time to put in some shackles... i personally use articulation shackles...the more u flex the more they spread. ( look into these supra...if u r an engineer they will be quite easy 4 u to make and they will go like crazy)
4) if u stick with zuk axles, use the 5:13 gears out of the escudo... i do believe that u can use the whole 3rd member, i dont know about the 413's
5) u must drop the steeering linkage or pittman...u could def. fab these sup...very easy to do...u'll have to experiment to get the angle with the least bump steer...i personally said stuff all that and went with the breeze crossover steering system which relocates the steering assembly 2 the top part of the kingpin.
6) i would suggest looking at the breeze site and fabbing your sh*t from their designs....i know its stealing but u just have to get the basic premise from them
7) if u stick with zuk axles, i would reccomend gettin wheels an tyres with a sweet offset that will widen yer stance....i use 1979 ford steel spokies...but u dont have those here
8) like i said though...all this is big game in canada...hunters use the zuks because nothing else is as small as them other than a quad...and u cant carry a 2000 lb moose with a quad can u now :salut:
hit me up i missed anything critical

Looked at the Breeze stuff, dont really want to go spring over just yet and i believe thats all they offer? Now looking at calmini 5" lift, which is 3" springs with reversed shackles, dropped pitarm steering, new shocks, breaklines, etc etc. Heard mixed reviews of calmini tho, is it really as stiff as some people say? does it settle at all?

did u go to this site?? http://breezeindustries.com/suzuki.htm
that is the spot and its canadian made.... i 'd say buy nz because u r here but i cant find any places where u can get stuff that is made strictly for the zuks.... look in the catalog on this page..... i believe there is what u r looking 4 in there......breeze unlike calmini devotes most of their technology to the zuks ...so if i can talk u into it ...u will prob get better quality from breeze :D
my first zuk came with the cal kit u r talking bout i think...or was it the spoa?? anyway it squeeked louder than a dying rabbit
try these links... http://www.rocky-road.com/suzuki.html

little zuk

Post by 1lurch »

a young fella bought a spring and shackle kit from calmini , in our club .
it flexed better than standard but he had hassles from the springs sagging . he has just taken that kit out and put a coil conversion ( i think its rocky road ) this gave him a huge lift . the fle is a little dissapointing , its supposed to give him 40 inchs of travel ......

for the hassle and cost i think the 'good old spring over' is the way to go .

cheers AL
