Wires Loop
Wires Loop
Old wires trip thread from years ago.....

We went up the main wires track last weekend,.
Drove up the loop at the far end of the track as far as the others we were with wanted to go, and walked a bit from there.
Then drove in from the other end to the river and walked up through the rock garden to the flat. Almost walked to where we got to from the other end.
What a wicked track!
One of the guys with us had been up ther 10 years ago (!!) and was telling horror stories about the rock garden, but it didn't actually look as bad as he described.
Challenging and lots of fun, but not impossible. Unless its wet that is... :0
Would be quite keen to head up there and do the whole thing with you guys in my zook.

If there are others looking for something to do on that weekend, we could have two groups.
The small crazy group who will hit the loop hard, and the rest who can go for the liesurly trip up the main track to the top.
We would all meet at the same spot in the afternoon to camp the night and who know's what mischief we could get up to.
The main track is fine for those with pretty well standard vehicles, and at this time of year, you would get by(have more fun) on AT's.
So how does that sound??
Two seperate groups, Shiney and Crazy, and meet at the camp ground at the top in the afternoon and head back out the next day.
Thoughts???

Yep, thats my zuk in the pic. Half way round the Waitapheta loop.
I saw on the new last night there'd been 200mm of rain in the Coromandel over the previous 24 hrs!
Is it possible DOC may close the track cos of this? I've heard they shut it if it is wet. Hopefully it would be open again by the weekend after if it does close.

Seems to be taking forever!!
Partly it's 'cos the truck is in a mates shed which is ~30Km away & partly 'cos we're doing th Nats again this year so that takes one weekend a month when we're competing & one weekend to get it ready for the next round - Oh and of course the Missus likes me to do jobs at home one weekend a month - so that leaves - yes 1 weekend a month to work on the bloody thing!!!!!
So hopefully I'll have it ready by Labour w/e - anyone for Tairees?
If at first you don't succeed .... Get a bigger hammer!!

just an idea but would it be worthwhile going over saterday night and camping up at the river tent site then we are there and ready to hook into it on sunday morning? then all we have to do is pop back down the track 5 mins and we are at the loop start??.. then we can leave tents etc there ready for sunday night??
just a thought
weather forecast is looking better and better too

Hmmm. yeah, i had been playin with that idea my self, its an awesome place to camp.
But it will be busy......................
Would be good to stash all the food and extra gear up the top before we hit it aswell.
Think about it though.
By the time you get up on Sunday morning, breaky, pack all the gear back up, and then get going, its prolly more of a shag around than goin on Sunday morning. But not as much fun.
Although it would save changing yours tyres round on Sunday morning at the start of the track
What ever you wanna do man.
You gona have room in the cruiser for my 5l fuel can for the chain saw??
I hate the petrol smell inside the cab, makes ya wanna puke!!!!!!

wopass wrote::wink: thats what i was thinking, pop into that farmers place that looks after the track and see if we can leave the trailer there and do the tyre swap saterday night, hit the track up to the river tent spot and have a few beerspass out
then hit the loop first thing in the morning leaving all non essential equipment there for sunday night when we get back to the river for a swim/paddle

Yep that sounds like a plan. Should only take 45mins up to the camp site.
