Offroad-Express

We go through a set of tyres a year, for the last 3 we have been running MTZs but the last set have no even lasted 8 months and also in that time we have spiked 3 tyres through the side walls, 2could be fixed the 3rd had to be replaced.
We are now looking at these Goodrich KM2s but don`t know what they are really like as they are only new here,has anyone any experience with them in mud/slush/ice as well as h`way wear. They will have to take excessive punishment and carry approx. a 4tonne load.

I know GQ's are whales but 4 tons what the hell are you carrying a couple of bulls on the back for that weight get some creepys and they will bag real well with that weight

It weighs 2.6 tonnes empty as it has steel b/bar,Warner h/mount with M steel cable, custom made steel flat tray, steel cage to hold fire wood.
When done for over loading a month ago it went 3.90 tonne loaded with 4 cubic metres of wood.Has been virtually custom built from the wheels up to do the job.It also drags a steel text trailer and cage which holds 2 cubic metres.
We have killed a 720 and 2X MQS but,the GQ (second hand) is on its 4th year and the engine is original with having done somewhere around 550000km, it is to have a turboed engine in it very soon as it is loosing power on hills and just doesn`t have the grunt anymore to get out of bogs under its own power and winching all the time takes up too much time.Also it drives around 2000 km a week at this time of the year.

looked at some today, 285/75-16 size, dealer was good mate of my bro in law who said he would be straight up and give me good price. Originally went to check out AT tyres, but seriously considering these for safari. As mainly road use I may get some on steel rims and keep my existing for general use. Apparantley good road manners with good milage up to 100k, but these are new so maybe these are overseas claims, dont know how milage would be on heavy 4wd. I am not too concerned about mileage as I dont do huge km as on ship half the time, but safety while towing on wet road a high priority. Will decide over next few weeks and keep you posted.

Was looking at tyres a week or so ago. Have used the BFGoodrich KM M/T's and have found them very good for normal use on and off road. My enquiries found out that they are no longer supplying the M/T's once current stocks are sold, only the new KM2's.
The KM2's are more agressive and personally I very much doubt their claims to being as quiet on the road as the KM M/T's.
The tread block is large and similar to other modern tyres such as the Maxxis and GT Adventuro's which I have found have inferior road handling, especially in the wet and tend to be a bit noisier and certainly don't get the big mileages of the M/T's.

Time will tell who is right, meantime I was not convinced enough to buy so ordered a set of BFGoodrich M/T's to put away while they had them.

Quite the pessimist I see!!

i drove a lancruiser 200 series with the new KM2 fitted ( along with OME suspension) and i found in they were not too noisey.... i also felt they hung on pretty good in the wet, but different tires on different 4wds work in different ways... and if you have 4 tons of hauling then its a whole different kettle of fish!!
