Hi, I would like to fit a snorkel to a Patrol and would like some advice in regard to are they noisey (wind noise)? Are there better brands to go for etc? And are there any tricks to fitting them - Is it difficult?
I had a pillar mount aerial on a Toyota starlet years ago that used to whistle and it drove me mad!! So I don't want a snorkel to do the same.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

no all snorkels ive owned havent been noisey at all they move around just a little on a windy motorway but apart from that no not noisey.
i prefer the airtech brand out of all the brands they are prob about 300.00 ish (one of the more expensive ones around)but i think they look the best specially on late model wagons ,nice moulded contours etc.

if you can get a 'safari snorkel' then spend the extra dollars / pounds / euros ... the fitting is so much easier , and tidier than the cheaper brands ( airtec , airflow ... )
you may get some engine noise coming back up the snorkel , but that will depend on the baffles and filter system your wagon has .
good luck ... AL

I've never heard of anyone saying snorkels are noisey, i made my own and i only get abit of a whistling noise coming back up it just after i've really booted the truck, go safari as they are alot better and seal better too.
Hey 1lurch, have you got a sticker like your photo, i could put it to good use!!!

OK, so they are fine. The only reason I asked was from a comment made on another website about a snorkel on a new Navara - I doesn't say what brand it was though:
"The unit available for the Navara seems to be very noisy. Beyond any limits I’ve struck before. So bad in fact you can’t hear the motor above the harmonic roar coming from the air induction system!!! I’ve modified mine to make it bearable..."
