My XJ failed WOF on play in both wheel bearings. No worries I thought. Until I tried to price one up. Cheapest I can get em for is $290 each thru Repco (and thats a trade price). We have a good relationship with SKF and BNT at work but they don't do em. Suprising considering the amount of XJs on the road. Has anyone ever played round with one of these units, ever pulled one apart and replaced the bearings etc? Found em in the states for 75 USD but that could be more hassle than what it's worth.
And I thought my Falcon was bad at $180 haha.
Cheers.
BTW are any Jeepers tempted for Woodhill this Sunday? Not too keen on going with a bunch a jappas haha.

Can it be off the road at all?
Saeco bearings will be able to find you the right ones but would possibly need to see the old ones. And will be waaay cheaper than ripco or bnt etc.

Yeah, I have four spare ones but they all have play. I'm sure I can get the individual bearings from SKF, Saeco etc. but whether pulling the hub to bits and re assembling will work out is another story... its a complete bearing/hub unit, like a car.
Cheers smurf, will give em a go.

Under normal circumstances, it is non-serviceable unit hub. Try Wooders (

This page is by an Australia XJ expert.

Thanks for the feedback. I chucked one in the press today and pulled it to bits. Bearings were good, so I regreased it, and lightly sanded down the end of the inner bearing race to adjust the preload. (Inner bearing race has the seal on the end of it, faces the UJ.) Put it back together and she feels just like a bought one. Gonna test it out at Woodhill this weekend to see how it goes.

I know Hi Tec the Jeep Dismantlers here in Ch-Ch sell new and used hub units. Not sure on price though. They ship around the Country all the time too.
They are importing allot of new parts now direct from the States.
Cheers.
