ln60 questions

a couple of questions for the surf gurus,
my leaf springs in the ln 60 are stuffed and i may be able to get a brand new set of ln65 leafs. i think these have same chassis so will they be sweet to put in?
am also looking at getting a set of 15x8 rims so i can run 33s. have read elsewhere on here that they will fit at standard height. what offset would be best suited to my surf? -24 seems to be cheapest on 4wd bits. would these be suitable and not cause the big tyres to rub?
as you can guess i dont know much about it so any help/advice would be appreciated.

If you are replacing the springs then go for 50mm lifted ones, you will need these to run 33's, they will fit on standard height but they'll rub alot. They will still rub a little bit at the rear of the front gaurds but only when the truck flexs up The trouble with after market lifted springs is that they are always much to stiff, don't flex that well and make the ride a bit rough. You can play around with the spring packs to try and sort that out a bit. The other option is to go for standard height springs that are a bit softer and will flex better and put a 50mm body lift in to clear the tyres. Personally i like a combination of the both, 50 spring and 50 body.

This will be perfectly adequate to get you going, and as your knowledge of 4wding grows, so will your ability to know what mods to do on your rig.

thanks for the advice, much appreciated.
if i run the 50mm lifted springs will i have to change the shocks at the same time? or will the standard shocks do for a while until funds allow me to get some new ones?
does a body lift require a cert?

what sort of shocks do you have at the mo? if they are the stock ones which i'd be surprised then yes you may have to change them but if they have been changed in the past most after market ones are already longer so may be fine. You will probably find that your shocks are all stuffed and you will want to change them anyway.

not sure what they are, il have a look. they probably are stuffed. the front leaves are bent the other way a bit way so i guess they have sagged alot to :roll: . not sure what road il go down yet, mostly itl be down to what the wallet will allow as i have to get tyres and wheels also as it only has nearly bald 30s at the mo.

what part of the country are you from?

I'm far from an expert but i am a firm believer in starting with the basics and working your way up. You could always go some second hand bits there are lots around because people are always up grading.

those tyres would be a good start with them an a 50mm lift would be a huge improvement and plenty to get you going.
There is a guy on trademe that sells hilux springs 50mm lift for good prices they are maxitrac and seem to do the job.

Have a good search around on this site there is heaps and heaps on info and alot of guys with crazy amounts of knowledge and experience on hilux's.

have ordered a set of maxitrac springs with 50mm lift and shackles so should be back in business before too long.

got them through repco pukekohe, they quoted me $780 for the full set. i mentioned that a mate may be able to get me a trade discount and the dude said he would sort me out a good price anyway. so i got them for $500. stoked on that price :D . guess they dont sell many. then it was around a couple of hundy for rear shackles , nolathane bushes and u bolts. im about half way through the install. have to get new shocks to cause the standard ones are stuffed and to short. the old leafs must have been sagged about 50mm cause it has lifted it up about 100mm from where it was before. next on the list are the 33s then im into it :twisted:

I had to with my LN65, had a brake shop do it, bout $100 fitted for the 2 front and the 1 rear

now that i am lifted im looking at getting some 15x8 rims with -24 offset and 33s. any problem with running that offset on my ln60?

Possibly on the front leafs you may get rubbing. what width and type of tyre? I put some 36x12.5 swampers on mine with the same rim and they rubbed quite a bit at the front. Get an old set of steelies off trademe for cheap, get the centres flipped and repowdercoated. still cheaper than new possibly and wicked offset.

any idea what offset id need to run to not have a problem? tyres im looking at are dueller 673 32x11.5x15

wonder how i could measure my offset? they been painted so probably cant tell by looking at the stamps,mine still rub a tad but thats only when its flexed right up inside and turning... thhink no mater what ya will get a bita rub, but with the sharp edges inside the guard flattend out ya do feck all damage

check out the link it will give you the measurements to work out your offset.
Mine also rub a little which is why im moving the axle forward and will be going to ifs hubs to match my wide rear axle.

i just got 15x8 wheels from speedy wheels with -24 offset fitted to my yn60 last night. i have std springs, although they are sagged hard front and rear and doesn't rub on full lock. need to flatten the edge on inside of guard before i go offroad tho as they will most likely rub. they stick a good 1.5-2 inches outside the body now so need to get it raised and some flexi flares... next on the list.

i got the springs priced up and around the $500 mark too. have ya got new shocks yet to allow for the raise? where from and what brand and price etc?

i have got some second hand vn commie rear shocks (monroe) in the front. picked them up for 50 bucks. will see how they go. still looking around for something to put in the rear. what tyres are you running smurfn? did you get the wheels direct from speedy? how much?

am running 32" maxxi mudders buckshots. the 15x8 make the tyres look better and a lot more staunch as the tyres are at a good width, about 2inchs more than old rims. will take some photos this weekend and post up for ya.

i got the wheels thru a mates work who got them direct from speedy. can get them for $85+gst per rim. thats cheaper than what they sell for on the net. they go for $400+ on trademe for a set of 4. thats with the -24 offset. the offset is perfect for a yn60, looks mean :twisted:

awesome man i ordered sum 15x8s from speedy today, should get them tomorow arvo. also ordered tyres through a local tyre shop. bridgestone dueller 673, 32inch also. be cool to see pics of your truck. will put some up of mione alsol when the new wheels are on :D

so i got my lifted rear springs in yesterday. am waiting on two more u bolts 2 be ordered in though so isn't fullly driveable yet... raised in about 3-4 inches due to old ones having sagged :twisted: just chargin digi camera at the mo so will take some photos and upload them later

photos with my new wheels and lifted rear springs. also painted the cab and followed the body line on front guards to front of truck. next is to prep the rest of body and paint it... undecided on colour yet

looking good, like that idea of the following the black down into the front, i might have to do the same, i will be re-spraying mine at some stage, not sure whether to paint canopy red or keep it black.. you will be able to fit 33s or bigger now :D

yeah i like using matte black coz it easy to respray when you get scratches etc from off roading. my bonnet was scratched to shit so i just resprayed it today as well... matty b always comes up mint :mrgreen:

yeah the body line is a good one to follow coz it comes all the way from the back of the truck under the canopy. my canopy was white until a few weeks ago when i sprayed it.. you guessed matty b :lol: after i tint the windows the top half should be stealth :lol: i would keep your canopy black but then again that is the style i like hence my truck like that.

next mission is to sand off the old stickers as it is near impossible to peel them off, having been baked on since 1985 :lol: then paint the rest of truck. i have a few ideas but you will have to wait and see... 8)

and the 32's will do me for the time being. am wondering whether i should raise the front as it has reasonable clearance as it is...

yea was thinking the stealth thing aswell, already got tints, rekon it would look sweet. maybe just chuck 50mm shackles in the front =25mm lift to level it out a bit, or chuck in an extra leaf

that looks sic man :twisted: hanging out to get mine finished. my wheels arrived friday. the duellers turned into a no go, out of stock. waiting for a price on 33x12.5 hankook rt03's. mine wont look as mean as yours, its bright yellow and has earnt the name "sponge bob". :lol: yea my 50 mm lift lifted the rear about 100mm also due to the sagged springs.
