Dont take this as gospel, but I think it alternates between club trucks and trials/buggies. This year its club trucks.
But yes, as Skid says, ring them to find out for sure

So no one on here knows much about it??

We have a team entered, but don't know a hell of alot about the event, other than its a REAL 24hr Tough truck challenge, with only one compulsary stop, for 1 hour, between 7pm and 9pm.

There is a base camp, and i think you start from there and finish back at the base camp 24hours later??

Keen on hearing how previous events turned out so we have a bit more of an idea what we are in for

We are basically setting our selves up and going prepared to face anything and everything. I think that might be what the organisers had in mind

Got this of the Hawkes Bay site:

Hawkes Bay Four Wheel Drive Club Inc
P.O.Box 7400
Taradale
NAPIER

6 May 2009

Dear Sir / Madam

The Hawkes Bay Four Wheel Drive Club is holding a Tough Truck Challenge in the Central Hawkes Bay Gwavas Forest and we are inviting you to participate. Numbers will be limited and entries will close when event is full, to enter this event there will be a fee of $40.00 per person for those that are participating.

The event is overnight, the 5th/6th of September 2009 and will be held rain or fine.

Teams comprise a minimum of three vehicles there is no maximum number; however as the object of the exercise is to get all your team through the various hazards, teams of three vehicles may have an advantage over larger teams.

The terrain suits good, capable, well-prepared club trucks; one winch truck per team is compulsory however more than one winch truck may be of advantage.
As it is an overnight event, all participants will need to bring overnight camping gear.

Upon entry we expect drivers to have considered all aspects of, and abide by the rules. Drivers must also be an affiliation member of the NZFWDA.

Expressions of interest or more in depth information is available from Virginia Wilson bumblebees@xtra.co.nz or Freddie by calling 06.8422665

Kind regards

Virginia Wilson

Was navi 2 years ago in a 40, entered again in the same truck this year... :D , basically a team of 3 and you have to navigate to the hazards and then you are marked on time thru that hazard as a team (as well as other things).

The event swops between club trucks and comp trucks each year ie club trucks this year, comp trucks next year, then club trucks year after...

Everything is optional, you can go there and have fun or got there and go hard out, It gets cold out there so bring lots of warm stuff...., the Zuk team carried on thruout the night to finish their hazards.... you can go and do a hazard when you want.... if you need an eg 20 min break after doing some hazards then you can take it i believe....

2 years ago the hazards were a mixture of easy to hard (steep climbs and deep bogs), More than one winch per team is recommended as you are a bit stuffed if your winch craps out....one of ours did and the other had a dead battery....

I might have a copy of the dvd of the 07 event here I think??

So from that, its run every two years.

Club trucks and trials trucks in the same event.

So Jerry, based on your experience, could we can leave spare fuel at the base camp rather than carrying it??

Or would that be stupid, as the treck back to the camp would be a mission??

I guess what would answer just about all of my questions in one go, would be an indication of how they have structured the Hazards.

Are all the hazards centered roughly around the base camp, or do you generally follow a route through the forest doing the hazards as you go, ending up at the camp on Saturday evening, and again after the last hazard on Sunday.

Could be wrong but i thought it was club one year then trials the next etc, would need to check

Yes thats what we did, i would't carry it in the truck whilst you are doing the hazards.... don't want fuel flying about if you roll..., just refuel as needed when you come back for more hazards

Or would that be stupid, as the treck back to the camp would be a mission??

Hazards were only 30 mins there back and travelling on average from memory

When you are ready you rock up to the caravan and ask for a hazard and then go out find it and then do the timed bit then come back to base, if you need to refuel youi can do so and then go and ask for another etc. the way they run it is so they know who is doing what hazards and when they finish, its not a you have to do thm 1 to 10 in order, in most cases the hazard is free when you do it, we had minimal waiting on a couple of the hazards only...

we did it 2years ago in the dry weather year.
Its an awesome event.
Its best to have a winch on all wagons if you dont want to stress the rest of the team. Suitable for club trucks upwards. Not a shiny trip if you want it to be shiny at the other end :D .
Tracks could best be described as a hardish club run, but covered everything from gravel tracks to bogs and extremely steep bits. Times for stages for us ranged from 15min to about 1.5hrs from memory. Some teams were out there for a alot longer. Ifs it was wet it would have been real hard work.
Would love to do it again but no working wagon anymore that I would consider suitable.

But really, if you can get a team together do it, it was great fun . . .
