driving thru woodhill on sunday, been stopping and restarting a few times thru out the day, and all of a sudden it wont start up again
got jump started by a nissan.......
turn off the surf later that night and it didnt start

ive charged both up thru out the night, it wants to turn over then it just makes that clack clack clack noise from starter
is it common for them to loose enough power for thewm not too start?
its a knz130 3,0 diesel turbo 1995 surf

Good chance that it might actually be the starter motor and not your batteries if you charged up both batteries. The clacking noise is probably the soleniod contactor.
Try removing the starter motor. Put it on the deck and jump it from your battery straight to the motor. See if it turns OK.
I had a case in my wife's car which had a similar problem. Could sometimes jump start it but wouldn't turn off it's own battery.Ended up being the starter motor was shot inside.

Sounds like the contacts in the starter motor are gone...easy to do yourself....hardest bit is getting starter motor out of vehicle.

Get your battery/ies tested to see if they can hold their charge anyway. peace of mind.

What was the outcome of your battery problem? Stater or Batt. Hope it didn't cost to much to sort out

best way to tell is to see if you're dash lights are still on when trying to start if they are it's prob a problem with starter if they dim/go out it means the starter is drawing more power than you're battery can supply ie dead battery.
except some after market dual battery systems you may not be able to do this as in the case with mine as only one battery powers starter/winch and the other powers the vehicle electrics.

got two new ones and shes been fine since then
