hey guys im just looking at my options for changing out peace of crap 4 speed for a 5 speed so im not reving the crap out of my engine trying to do over 100. i have a 3y converted to 3ye in the car. how hard is it to put a w55/w57 in and would i be able to. i know going from g to w series i have to cut around the shifters back about 50 or 100mm im not worried about that was wondering if you need new crossmember or not and will my g series bell housing bolt onto a w series box? also what about getting a rwd one and taking the back housing section off and bolting the rear housingwere the shifters go and tranfer case bolts to. i have the housing from my old blown up g52, is the bolt pattern the same? also is the gearing very different between the g and w series? just looking into it atm as i said. i remember when i was looking for a new gearbox i could get a w57 i think it was but rwd for like 150 from someones mate on here who lived in hamz so if i can make it 4wd with what i have and only have to cut around shifters than its piss easy.

let me know what your thoughts are.

by the way for those that dont know i have a yn60 with a 3y that i have made injected. has 4 speed which i thought was 5 speed when i purchased from someone in welly.

also does anyone know the proper gap for the spark plugs on a 3y-e and also the proper timing degree for the 3y-e?

g52's come in 5 speed as well wouldn't just be a helluva lot easier to swap tro one of these. Thought all surfs had 5 speed and only some hiluxes had 4 speed?

A W56 from an IFS Surf bolts straight up, you will need to re cut the holes in the floor for the gear levers as they are back further than the G52 and the W56 is reputably stronger than the G52. You should be able to get a G52 from a Hilux in 5 speed just as easily too though. There is no need to go piss*ng around with a RWD gearbox.

yeah might try and find a w56 find one for a cheap price. want something stronger than a g52 for the future for if i go commy or v8 i already have a good box. good to know they bolt straight up.

w56 are most commonly found in the first of the ifs manual surfs, get the transfer case to, lot less shagging around

sweet thanks for the advise. if i were to find a w56 from a 2lt or 2lte could i take the bell housing off it and bolt my 3y one that is from the g52 onto the w56 box? if that makes sense. in otherwords will my g52 3y bell housing bolt onto a w56 2lt. also are the splines any different between the 3y box and the 2lt box and also between the g52 and 3y. anyone know

Pretty sure they are the same spline. I swapped out a G52 in my petrol Surf (5M) and replaced it with a diesel W56
