want to lift the lux about 3". got a price from 4wdbits for a leaf spring kit. was up around $2500. What would a coil conversion cost? and how do i go about doing it? was thinking there must be some posts on here about doing one but cant seem to find much

done properly, drive in drive out with cert, easy double that, hell you could throw 20k at coilovers, bumpstops, bling arms....

If you have some fabbing skills, try goggling it. Lots of info on 4 and 3 links on Pirate.

If you can do the work yourself it doesn't cost much.

I bought an entire nissan front end for $400 and fitted to the lux . I had to have it certified at around $300, but then it took a couple of weeks playing around to do it.

A lot of guys fit prado coils and suspension to the lux's and they dont cost much for parts.

thats some good knowledge. wouldnt have thought of going near any nissan bits but if its a good alternative maybe a trip to the wreckers is in hand.

it depends what are you plans for your truck?? how hard do you drive?

prado is strong but nissan is stronger... but you loose ground clearance

Both also have their own inherent geometry issues as well.

Go and do your homework, and you will see that being able to dial in your own link set setup is the only way to get a rig that handles the way you want it to.

If you are just going to stick in factory bits from other models, you may as well just go and buy a factory coil truck (like and 80 series, 70 series prado, pootrol etc).

For the back use a Surf coil rear end.

what about getting a 70 series prado chassis and sitting your body on it, or use a coil surf rear end and a prado front end, surf coil rear end s are worth nothing, no idea what you would pay for a prado front though , i tryied to get $300 for a rear half of a coil surf with every thing incl exept diff head on tm and no intrest so not worth much to buy.cheers

like the sound of a prado/surf combo. i reckon i could get it all fitted aye but not sure i would be able to get it set up right. only really thought of a coil conversion because i didnt like the sound of 2500 for bloody leaf springs. just got on trademe though and some 60 series springs have popped up so seeing what this fella can supply them for

and then paying all that money for the front and rear ends, you have to fit them, dont expect the front end to line up with bolt holes, then you have to buy lifted springs and shockies anyway, just get lifted springs it may be pricey but #### coil spring conversion would just be a pain in the arse (not saying it cant be done with the right knowledge). Ive got a 2inch body lift witch cost me $20 of coarse i got steel free machined myself etc, and got good discount on longer bolts. and i have a 2inch - 2 1/2inch leaf rise kit and axle moved forward, cost me about $320 a pair for springs, about $200 a pair for shocks, got them to drill the centre hole 40mm forward. Bought a modified steering arm and modified drag link because axle was moved forward $250, some longer brake lines $60, cut and welded the pitman arm - free, and spun up two spacers for my d/shaft - free, duno what that ads upto about $1800 for 4inchs of lift of coarse the body lift is puerly for tyre clearence and gives no advantage to actual susp travel just stops you from chewing out your 33s

The main reason I like the coils is not articulation but comfort. My articulation is not that much more than the leaf springs but it is like an armchair in comparison.

Worth every cent

im not sure if you guys have ever had a coiled surf rear end but as rok was saying they are far from flash, short little arms that limit how high you can go and flex as well. Maybe use the housing and spring top hats but as said it pays to do your research and design the system that suits you. What do you want to get out of the mod? Im pretty sure my surf with leaves was just as good/bad as my surf with coils. Now i have gone back to a hilux and am also tossing up going coils, I have seen some good 4 links done on the cheap using alot of factory parts but copying another trucks factory setup is a bad idea.

What you haven't told us is why do you want to lift the truck ?

What are you mainly going to use it for ?

The simple truth is you cant have an extreme offroader and a good road handling truck at the same time.

Springs soft enough to articulate alot are a dog on the road. So in most cases it is a compromise and we need to know your intended purpose for the truck is.

I have a halfway truck but with diff locks still go where most other trucks go. I have 720mm at the front and 800mm at the rear which is about half of Jafa's 1400mm. The difference is I can drive mine on the road where his is a trailer queen.

Hosehussler did a coil front end from a Prado under his surf, it was a lot of work but gave him the truck he wanted. There is another surf down here coing Prado diffs etc again the 1kz engine and linked but to fit everything will have a gorward facing power steering box.

I think all up it will cost 6K for all the parts, engineering, cert but that includes beadlocked rims.

What about coon swap and rears up front? Should be relatively cheap, especially if you can do the work yourself

yea not looking for big articulation. just wanted to get it lifted enough to get 35s on and my front leaves are sagging more than a 40 year-old porn stars tits. the only reason i muttered any thing about a coil conversion was cos i didnt like the idea of 2 and a half grand! and being new to 4 wheel drives (i used to indulge in lowered jappers ) i figured i would just ask to see what the story was. turns out it was just a case of you got to ask around to find the deals will show you all my efforts to transform the truck over the next few weeks... at the moment its a v8 hilux that was used to pull horses. looking at throwing a few choice bits on it
