I was wondering if anyone can tell me what is up with my steering in 4 wheel drive on my Terrano

for a while now, when in 4 wheel drive - high range, when I get up to round 50km the steering every now and then will suddenly jerk hard left, when i pull it back stright it be sweet and will keep going for a while then it will do it again.

I havent really been worried about it as I hardly every travel at high speeds in 4 wheel drive so its not a problem and the 4 wheel drive seems to be working fine, but it got a little concerning on the Remarkables access road this morning with it trying now and then to throw me of the of the side of the access road

The 4 wheel drive is all still working fine, and its only when in four wheel drive does it do it so im a bit lost as what it could be, any ideas will be great.

if auto hubs check them out, could be the left hub unlocking causing you to shoot to the left when the power is on ?

both ideas seem reasonable

It is auto hubs, so maybe ill use that as my excuse to get manual hubs then failling that ill look at cv

Whats would be the best manaul hubs to get??

You can get warn ones to fit terranos. They are pretty much of a muchness really. My bet would be on the cv, my safari did this and it was the spring clip locking the axle into the cv, had stuffed itself.

Actually it proberly is the cv, I just had to replace all 4 boots as they were split, so crap has proberbly made it in to the CVs

I didnt do it myself, but i assumed the guys who did it would of had a look at them but maybe not

The chocolate fish goes to no one, we pulled the hub to peices and it was all good, we checked the cv it was fine, so we amitted defeat, and took it to the garage.

Took the mechanic for a drive in it, he almost shat himself driving it, he thought it was the scarest thing he has ever felt in his 30 odd years off fixing cars, and had no idea what could be causing it, the jerking was also happening in two wheel drive but i had not noticed it as it no where near as bad,

we put it up on blocks and let it rip, turns out the entire front left wheel would come free and turn inward. so he started pulling the hole front driveline apart, it was eventally found that one of the bushes in the centre track rod? - (i think thats what it was called) was buggered, so $100 in parts later and $500 in labour time lol, its fixed, just got to get a new wheel alignment now.
