The bellhousing from your 3Y should bolt straight onto the gearbox from the later surf although the T/C lever in a surf comes out in a different place so you need to trim the rear of the hole in the floor to let it through. The transfer case is different (chain drive rather than the older model which is gear driven) - but it should from memory go in - although you will need to deal with push-button 4WD.
Got a funny feeling you can't just swap the t/c's over - think the spline count is different between the two.
The axle in that surf is 3" wider, and set up for coils... and the diff is a different ratio... probably either 4.1 or 4.3 depending on engine. Yours will most likely be 4.8, or possibly 4.5 depending on model.
Hope that helps..

Yes. Huge difference. G52 5speed instead of an R150 and gear-driven t/c instead of chain drive. Swap the bellhousing and bolt the box straight in. Your truck should (check the firewall plate) have a G52 in it all ready - just a 4-speed variant.
The diffs will still be different ratios but you can swap the axle housing over (need the other handbrake cable and u-bolts/plates) for a nice wide rear with better brakes.
Good score - want to sell me the front driveshaft from the one you're wrecking?
