KZN185 1KZ into LN107

We have a well setup LN107 with knackered 2.8 and KZN185 with good 1KZ. Apart from the obvious gotchas like sump and transfer case, does anyone know of other gotchas?
Anyone found an easy solution to the transfer case gotcha?

kzn130 eng,box & transfer went straight into my ln106 just had to shift engine mounts and make up new exhaust. and got my old 2.8 radiator modded to suit the 1kz. as i had the 1kz one in but it hangs too far out the bottom of chassie and snags on rocks. you'll also need min 50mm body lift.

KZN185 has the front diff on the passenger side so transfer case is also passenger side instead of drivers side like LN107 and KZN130.

that's right so you'll have to remove the transfer and swap it for a kzn130 transfer. wreckers would probly swap it for small charge :| . or you can get a adpter plate(marks adapters in auzzie est $900nz) to bolt you're ln106 transfer to the kzn180 box which is slightly stronger  .

Auto or Manual?

Locally a KZN 185 has had a beam axle swap and below is in regards to this.

If its a 185 Auto the transfer cases from 130's bolt up to get the output on the right side but the splines don't mesh so no drive so you really need the 130 auto as well.

The 185 1KZ sump is not very suitable for a beam axle so the KZ130 sump and pickup was used, and the engine lifted to match the body lift.

This guy ferrit has been banned from a few 4wd forums but has got his ln106 + kzn130 sorted.

Worth the read befoire you start buyin bits etc

Both LN107 and KZN185 are manual.
Will the KZ130 transfer bolt stright up? With drive :D

so this is a kz motor into a ln130

what you do is
you take your kz box . bell pump and TQ off the auto and fit it up to a ln130 auto ... job done

i have a 1kz pump TQ and pump if you dont wanna kill the box

basically what i have just done on mine is
a prado kx auto and transfer
ive taken the prado transfer and output shaft fromt he box
and put it into a uz boz

next on my list of things to do is to take another kz prado set-up .. and put the pump TQ and bell and output shaft into a tt supra box

gotta love toyota stuff ... sooo much interchangeableness
BUT the moment you arnt dealing with a a34# box .. it becomes a issue

hope that helps

No its a manual so I can't help but given the assumption the 185's would all have the same (weak) transfer case then maybe they would bolt up but not have drive......?.

With regards to the auto, it is not the input shaft that is the problem, it is the output so it makes sense just to swap whole auto's as you'd need one for parts anyway.

outputs from manuel to auto are different
and there are a few different input shafts
kz is different to uz and uz is different to jz .. so its just a assumption

as far as drive goes ... they just have a splined coupling .. its quite possible and quite eazy to get a spline adapter made up to replace it
getting things to bolt up is the hardest bit

im swapig auto's because internally .. there all quite diferent
uz has more clutchs than the ln and kz versions
and the tt supra one has more than the uz ... also have different valve bodys

Soundslike I need to pull all the bits out and see what fits onto what. Might be easier to cut the whole front section off the 185 and weld it onto the 107, different widths but we can bridge that.

Yea the front chassis rails were almost too wide to get springs to seat properly onto factory Prado front axle housing mounts.

And the steering box was the changed from R & P to the box.

you can swap the clutch packs around, its cheaper than building a coupler for auto to transfer. I have a supra auto sitting in the shed for just that purpose.

The 2JZ TT supra and non turbo supra have the same input shaft and pump as the A343F (attached to a 1KZ) in the prado. So if you get one of those all you need to do is change the belhousing over.

i didnt need to make a coupler for mine .. spines are identical
also .. dont forget to change the output shaft
