have any of you had experiance with these rifles i am looking at one as a cheep gun for possums bunnys and maybe goats

am wanting a gun more powerfull than a .22lr and at roughly .50c a round i thought this might be a good option

should i get 1 or not waste my time and get a .223 or something like that

id go with the 223. we had one of those 22 magnums and it was a piece of shit. never once put a bullet in the same place. could have just been our particular one but it was annoying. and you can get 223 ammo for $10 per box. its pretty cheap and nasty but does the trick

calibre choice is useful, please dont go shooting possums with a 223. thats a calibre that in good competent hands will deal death to a goat at 400 metres. DONT want to be shooting up into the sky with that, do you?

as far as the norinco is concerned, you MAY get a good one, but the odds are against it.
Better to get a yankee weapon, far better quality control.

yea i would of hoped that a normal .22 for rabbits and possoms or a shotty for stuff on the fly/close up. And a 223 for goats.

haha , ive had mine for 5 years, has a n o name 0-8 adj scope, ive shot hares ,, goats and magpies at say 150 yards, ive destroyed bunnies , paradise ducks, pukekos at close range, have a huntaway pup now and have no small easy prey left !!, mine must have been made before 3 pm on monday eh, i would buy a bigger gun but keep my magnum, have always used 30 grain federal premium ammo, just to give comment !! you know! cheers, occasionally cheap is good, i spent alot of time siting it in though , warwick

sorry had some pukekos spread salmonella in our cattle and havnt really forgiven them and only shooting in season of course,!! ? warwick

reason im thinking on the norinco is its 400 bux with a scope so im more for the cheep gun so i can spend more on a decent .270 or .308

Fair enough. as one of the previous posters said, he got a good one, and a good scope cheap too. Spent ages sighting it in, and the longer you spend doping THAT usually the better results, if only for the practice!!!

So long as you are aware of the risks involved buying cheap, lol

have a neighbour with same gun but older , he complains about the barrel etc getting very DIRTY. i have cleaned my gun only twice in 5 yrs and have fired alot of ammo, i think its the way he carries it when hes out!! , he uses a 50 grain ammo thou and i use a 30 ? warwick

was in talking to one of the local hunting stores and he said he will beet huntin and fishings price of 400 by 50bux so i cant really complain a good little gun for 350

i bought mine new, the advice i got was to shoot 50 shots, but over 5 times, this was due to the barrel temp, as it tends to warm up, so i shot 5 groups of 10 , each group 15 min apart. so i did and all ok warwick,

what is the reccomended ammot to use in these .22s

i have always used federal premium which are a light 30 grain ammo, but can no longer get these in the wairarapa, so have switched to 50 grain hornaby with little plastic tips on the end,
shot 2 groups of 5 , adjusted scope, re check , sweeet,
dont be in a hurry to sight it in , shoot a few groups over a couple of hours

guys, you are sort of right and sort of wrong..... lol

We, the fellers I have shot with etc have found over the years, that ANY rimfire will shoot accurately most ANY ammo.
BUT, having said That, there are always some few exceptions.
For example, I have a Browning Tee bolt, the second one I have bought. it will shoot everything well, BUT if I change manufacturers, it takes several boxes of slugs before the group tightens up again. Same deal if I change BACK to the original ammo.

Why? I DONT KINOW!!!! too many variables to be able to pin down the reason.

What I am saying, fall in love with a particular, easy to get, reliable ammo and source of. use it exclusively and persevere. not only are you training yourself to shoot, you are conditioning the rifle. BE PATiENT!!!

I've got a JW-23 22mag with a hushpro suppressor.
I found it took awhile to wear the barrel in but now i love it.
It was definately worth spending alittle extra and getting the suppressor put on too.
I use it for goats, bunnies, magpies and everything in between.
I've found Winchester Supreme works best for me.
I recommend a small amount of filing just to touch up burrs etc and on the mag so it feeds nice and smooth. They can be a great wee rifle.
