hey

i went out 2 start my truck the other night and it cranks over fine but wont start.

i cracked off a all the injectors 1 by 1 and made sure there was no air in the line

i then pulled out each glow plug and hooked them up to the battery and they where fine

batt voltage is good and i can hear the glow plug relay click over

question is what do i check next? and have i missed something?
any help would be appreciated cheers

seems strange, pull out your air filter then try it

how long since it was last started

tardbe in welly had a similar problem with his 2L

turned out it wasn't getting any diesel

take front hose off manual primer and pump it until the diesel comes thru, then stick the hose back on and pump some more and then try cranking it

it may need a little assistance if its been a while (engine start)

hi iv been using it about twice a week its getting fuel and iv taken out the airfilter. im wondering if it could be the glow plug timer or something. the relay only clicks once. is that normal

have you got a test light or multi meter? if so check how long the glow rail is getting power for

hi thanks for the suggestions i just checked and im getting 6.67v to the glow rail

is that normal if so any ideas what 2 check next?
it driving me mad lol its prob something simple but i cant find it

That seems a bit low? the usual voltage i've seen is between 10 and 12 at the glow plug. Check the voltage rating on your glow plugs and if it's not getting the correct voltage it can burn them out. could be something wrong with the wires going to the rail.

i would have thought that you should be getting around 12v to the rail, i think watever regulates the voltage to the rail eg may be the timer but i am not sure, will be at fault, maybe if you run a jump wire from your battery positive to your glow rail for as long as it usally glows for then try to start

I had the same problem with my 2lt, was winding over, but never starting. Turns out the glow plug timer and relay didn't like swimming the weekend before and shorted them out. I ran a wire straight from the battery to the glow plug rail and it started straight away. I've now ripped out the timer and relay and have just run a wire from the battery to the glow plug rail, with a push button inside the cab to manually glow them. Works a treat now.

this should only be a short term fix unless you have 12V glow plugs. Alot of glow plugs are only 7V-10V so glowing them with 12V will kill them sooner rather than later

provided you don't glow them for more than a 2-3 seconds (or multi glow) they will be fine. the down side is the glows won't run while the motor is running, so motor tends to run a bit crappy when cold.

hi thanks for ya advice i ran a wire frm da batt 2 the glow rail and it went. so i got myself another glow plug timer and relay 2day and put them in and it still wont start

well if you have done that it sounds like the wireing in between the timer and the glow plugs... , if you can run a jumper lead and it works....

which 2lt do you have, early or late. later ones use ECU to control emmisions and also controls the glowplugs. uses a temp sensor. i assume you also chekeck fuses/fusable links?
