On a patrol LWB.Front and rear.I have a Best Bars detatchable tow ball installed.Are those Bushranger hooks at repco OK for the job?

Where ever you have them. make sure you can get to them when you are stuck up to your bumpers in mud, i have lost count how many times i have gone to pull people out who can't find their hooks, cause they are pointing downwards and are burried into the bank!! I have a set of jaws above my rear tow bar and 2 hooks on the front on the sides of the chassis and they all work very well, easy to find and are strong!!!! ( a nissan can't pull them off!!

Yeah, thats right, the chassis will sort of belly out on the ground which means i can still get to the hooks, having one on either side is a big advantage too, i have welded on a 12mm plate that is bend along the side of the body mound and back to the chassis on an angle so it acts as a gusset too, then drilled and taped the tow hooks onto this, with backing nuts on the back bolts too, just to be safe!!!

hooks are the thing you really should overkill . only use 8.8 high tensile bolts or stronger . the plate or angle you use should be at least 12mm or thicker , and in line with the chassis rail .
all the fuss will be paid back every time you throw a rope on . If you have ever been present when a hook let go you will understand what i mean.
oh yeah , mount them up-right , this gives you less chance of the rope or strop coming off or getting stabbed by the hook

The isuzu mu ones have spring back keepers on them so the rope falling off is not a problem, you can buy spring keepers for most hooks from your local hook and rope specialist.
Bolts need to be at least 12mm diameter and 8.8 grade, but no more than 12 as any higher and they will shear off as they can't handle shock loading!!
The local 4wd club i am a member of had a safety inspection and we found that most of the nissans with factory winchs only had normal grade bolts holding the winch cradle to the chassis, could be worth a look, you should preiodically check your recovery hooks for tightness, (58 foot/pound for 12mm bolts i think) as bolts stretch after a while.
