Surf 2.4 Smokey Idle!

Hey all,

I have a 1993 Toyota Surf 2.4Lt

...In the morning when i go turn her on, she starts fine, But if left at an Idle RPM I create a smoke screen, which at traffic lights can be slightly annoying!


Now i checked the Air Intakes, but they are clean with no obstructions.
I have observed that if the revs are kept above 1200Rpm The smoke clears. The smoke is definetly due to it Running WAY to Rich. Not oily smoke.(checked oil numerous times)

One friend said it could be the Injector, which is unclean or leaking?
The other mentioned it could be the Fuel pump?

Any ideas?

which motor does it have? 2lt or 2lt-e ?

odds are its not overfueling, it would be taking off if it did. most likly the EGR is stuck open or the intake butterfly is closeing to much.

its an SSR-X 1993 Surf? ...Im not to sure about the 2Lt e?

have a look under the bonnet, see if it has EFI written on the turbo crossover tube.
if you havn't done so block off the EGR and disable the butterfly in the intake. the 2lt-e is dual butterfly, one is controlled by throttle cable the other by an acuator. block the hose from the acuator.
hopefully smoke will stop.
