Hey guys, I tried replacing my steering Idler on my Isuzu MU today, got all the nuts and bolts out of it, but I couldnt for the life of me budge it off the rod the links it to the steering rod... tried a puller and a CV cracker, neither of which budged it, are there any tricks to these? or will I have to take it to a steering place with a hydrualic puller?

any help would be great!

Hit it the side of the idler arm with a hammer to break the taper (just put the castellated nut back on backwards so you don't damaged the thread if you miss)

Tried that... spent alot of time hitting it, starting with a small hammer, and ending up with a rather large hammer, still with no luck

Get a grinder to it and SAS it

try warming the arm dont over heat it you want it to expand a bit which happens at low heat then hit one
worked for my son on his fj40 arms which have been on longer than yours

i did mine recently, it was a pain to get off, but i got it with a ball joint separator http://www.powerbuilttools.co.nz/powerb ... ension.htm and a fairly large hammer

yeah sorry, thats actually what I meant by CV cracker... Just named it wrong hahaha, used that and a rather large hammer, still with no dam luck!!! was hitting at it for a good 20minutes and it wouldnt budge

no no, the steering idler is a bracket on the passenger side chassis rail that links onto the steering rack, the power box is on the drivers side and this steering idler is on passenger side...
I tired a small amount of heat when attempting to crack the arm off shaft with no luck

however, I notice you are in mangere aswell, I am mangere east/papatoetoe, so if you have some good ideas, throw me a txt on 0211644179

Just to update, Finnally managed to hit the bastard off after hours of swinging..... unfourtunatly I think I broke my hand in the process LOL
