Hi Guys

My name is James (20)I live in Rangiora North Canterbury, I have recently acquired my old mans LN130 Surf.

as no stranger to working on cars i have owned a fairly modified BMW and currently saving an older datsun 300zx

The Surf has a rebuilt motor, rings, bearings, pistons, new head, rebuilt turbo de restricted exhaust and replaced mufflers ect.

I am a newbie to off road driving but I had a great time going into Monument hut earlier in the year(before I owned it) & driving into Loch Katrine Yesterday.

If there are any other Hilux Surf owners who want to give me some tips about setup and driving post em up.

Hey James

Welcome.

Lots of Surf owners about here and you'll find lots of advice and generally lots of off road stuff.

There seems to be getting a few more forumites from Rangiora on here lately, I'm just over the bridge in Ashley and have a Datto 1.5zx (little bro of yours).

That's a cool Build PR

After having a read of some of the good tech info on here i think i have worked out some long & short term practical modifications

I have to be sensible as this is my only running vehicle and needs to get into polytech down the motorway 2-3 times a week.

1. Remove running boards, replace with a nice pipe to protect sills. & figure out want I'm going to do with the old bull bar.

2. 50mm rear lift and front bar adjustment. might go with the tip on using 60 series front shocks on the LN130 coil rear. I have heard good things about Bighorn LWB rear springs giving a good lift and working well on Surfs and Prado's.

3. Bend/weld up a front skid plate

4. Tighten up the LSD as it might as well be an open diff ( mates Ln130 felt 10x better with a shimmed up diff )

Last thing will be some 32"s and white spokes
( current alloys and road ish tires will be kept for just that as they are all brand new)

This is a good forum with good tech info.

GQ grannie > My datsun is a 1985 Z31 300zx, 2 seater 3.0 turbo, manual with a solid roof and none of this Miami vice t tops open roof business.

Hi James, welcome along. Im a new member to forum also, but have had a Surf for 10 years. I also work in Rangiora, and you would have been welcome to look over the mods I did to mine, but sold it on Friday! Sway bar disconnects and side bars were the best things I did to mine.
Cheers Scotty
