looking for a part for the VX

mm how do i explane this one.
the streering shaft that goes through the fire wall, looks like im missing a part there as i have a thudin sound last night driving home.
been out there this morning to find rubber hose cable tied around the shaft and sitting in the firewall hole.
does anyone kow the part number or even better what should be there.
pics will be a great help
