Not that i know anything about the engines mentioned, But i`d reccomend getting a 4wd box that fits the motor, will likely be the same price as a custom bell, and will be stronger than all the 2.4 stuff (i'd imagine)

I`m sure on of the "know it all been there done that guys" will chip in.
To Boon or not to Boon.

hi there, your truck should have a w56, bloody good box with gear driven transfer.
the g52 is the weaker box of the two and mostly found in ln60 surfs
check your build plate on the fire wall

as for the ecu side of things, in cars im all for it.
in something that sees its fair share of mud and water id go for a mechanical injector pump- easy to tune- 1 wire hook up- easy to fix in the middle of the bush- the list goes on

I am pretty sure the 1KZ motors only came with the R series box behind them so you will need something from a later Surf or Hilux to fit it all up.

No reason why you can't run the computer if you have all the loom and the ECU and can wire it up yourself.

What he said, you can't bolt up the 1KZ to the W56 box in your LN61 (1st generation surf), only option is to use a box from a 2nd generation surf (R series) and make a crossmember to suit, have to say though it's a shit load of work for an older surf, better to reconsider your options, a 2.8 L series engine(called a 3L) from a double cab or van will bolt straight in your engine mounts, will bolt straight up to your gearbox, can be turbo'd with a 2.4turbo and is cheap as and go pretty good, not as good as a 1KZ but if I was doing a LN61 repower this would be by far the best value for money and ease option
