Recently I bought my first vehicle, a red 1989 Suzuki samurai. I am planning to join the local 4WD club. I would like to fit these tires
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Wheels-tyres/4x4/auction-230365275.htm, but I will obviously need to modify my truck first. What mods would I need to do? (pictures of truck will be added later)

Hi Zukmeista, if your trucks gearing/motor is standard
i wouldnt be goin for those tyres ,their just to big for a
lil zook to push,a good size is the 30x9.5.Im in the Whangarei
4wd club and own a zook myself, feel free to give me a call on
027 6208932 and i can let you know about the club and some
modifications you can do to your truck

hi i have a samurai (well 2 of them ish) and i run 29x7.5 tires and i can run out of power on steep hills, but with a less agressive type of tire you can go to 30 but try not to go over the 9.5 wide or you start getting a little underpowered. i put a 410 t/case in mine which is suposed to be alot lower gearing, this helped slightly but didnt do a great deal. anyways just give me a pm if you need any info. thanks

I was able to run 30x9.5x15 833 Kumho's and then BFG's same size on my SJ413 over 9.5 wide the zuk doesn't have enough weight to get thru the crap to get bite. Most of my off road time was at 3 - 4 psi.
Putting the 410 tcase in I dropped my gearing by half a gear. I'm also in the Whangarei club so if you want to pick brains give me a call 027 227 3705
Cheers
Dan

Man I think you guys need to either harden up or learn to drive, I have run many zook's on 31's no problems, even a stock standard sj410 with ashackle lift goes hard as on 31 by 10.5 no need for more power, Just learn how to use what you have got

How about putting in your location and tell us the type of terrain you are driving on? You must be a really GOOD DRIVER

thats exactly true, you go up a steep hill reving its guts out it Will loose power with 31x10.5 tires on, unless you start to do mods here and there.

That's a mighty big statement there mate.
Not saying you cant run 31's on a standard ish Zook, but it is far from ideal.
I blew up my G13A running this setup. 31's on standard gearing. Always reeving the crap out of it on road and having to ride the clutch for everything.5th Gear became unusable.
Was a pig to drive as well. Keept running out of power on hills in 2nd low, over running uncontrollably down steep hills. Tires scrubed all over the place in the front with out bump stop extensions.
IMHO you end up taking long run ups to get speed to tackle obstacles, instead of being able to idle up nice and controlled.
I also think a 10.5 wide tire is too much for a Zook with no power steering.
My mates 410 struggles to run 31's , the little G10 just does not have the power to turn them. killed one engine this way before going back to 30's.
410 transfer gives you roughly a 12% reduction in high range when put in a 413, which makes the on road gearing just about right for 30" tires
