Saw a couple of ex-army double cab Navara's for sale at Turners. 2004 models, 3l diesel, about 120Km. Manual front hubs, some interesting looking tyres. General condition looks good.

Anyone seen these for sale before? Something to go for or stay away from? Would they have been thrashed or well maintained?

Regards

If anything like the Air "Force" ones, they may have had a thrashing, but are well maintained.

Quite likely better than the Air Force ones, as the Army have military spec vehicles (pinzgauer 6-wheelers) for the real military functions, and these are basically the senior officers company cars. The Air Force don't have the mil-spec stuff so have to push the civilian vehicles a bit harder. I agree with the maintenance side though - they won't have missed any oil changes, and all parts will be OEM

We have these at work, and they get a very hard time, and had no problems motor wise. We have had bent rear diff housings, snapped axles etc, but this is mainly due to the weight of the gear these carry. They have been weighed at up to 3400kg (gear has been removed to try to help now), and tow up to 2000kg, and they are still going well, which, considering the way they are driven, and where they are taken, is quite good IMO.

I believe from 03 (I think 03, maybe 04) onwards, Nissan had repaired the oil feed problem with these engines.

I was told once that it was actually a vinyl - in which case i'd think highly scratch resistant yeah?

Does not look like a vinyl to me- I've seen one and thought the factory paint was just hit with some satin clear.

I wonder what that tree camoflage vinyl stuff costs (as seen on that 4wdaction hyundai thing)

-taking threads OT since forever.

A couple drift cars run camo, and it can be pretty cheap as you can use a lot of offcuts :D

Mate offered to camo up my surf, i kindly declined :P

The lads sit around with a single malt and discuss how to make shiny stuff not so shiny. :) Either that or it has something to do with head butting?

Ruffed up, usually with sand paper, is my understanding of the word but I like williamhamilton's definition better

ohh sorry.Yeh car painter term I guess. Scotched like scuffed up, using Scotchbrite and a scuffing paste, what painters do to your panels for the paint to key too... might have to try williamhamiltons idea some time though! sounds way better!!
