Starter problems (now)

Post by Heath »

Hi guys,

Well they say when it rains it pours.

The starter motor on My chev (3.8 V6) has given me trouble a couple of times in the last few days.

Tried starting this morning and it seemed to labour when starting and then stopped. tried key again and got a clicking noise. Gave it a few seconds and it cranked a little bit (1/2 revolution) and stopped again. Making a terrible noise like it is binding or the compression id too high for it. Makes a similar noise occassonally, very loud metal on metal noise but never actually locked up or stopped (except for the clicking).

Could this be all part of the same problem I had with the electrics, the battery finally giving up or something more serious?

Will pop into my mechanic tonight but it only does it everynow and again (although more frequently now)

Cheers Heath

I once had a starter motor do a similar thing on my old LR and found that it was so full of crap/sand and anything else found in mud bogs that I'm surprised it ever worked as long as it did.

Just my small experiece with starter motors

sounds like youre solonoids packing up.

you want to pull the starter out and bench test it and check the throw out is working accordingly, sounds like it does then dosent ,things sound like there not meshing to youre flywheels ring gear on the buik.(the throw out shaft is prob wandering around all over the show)

try this bud and let me know how you get on
