I want to intercool my landcruiser. But cant afford to buy the intercooler kits at $1500. Has anyone made or used another sort of intercooler. I was thinking of making one from brass tube with a steel sleeve .Thoughts ?

have heard a few of the turbo 4 cylinder ones will do the trick

know for a fact that a WRX intercooler works on the 1HDT

have one on my truck and have takin it off due to giving lag.
i dont think its worth spending the pinger doing it,some will say that it cools intake temps witch is probly the only benifit
it also depends how much boost your feeding it,ran 15 in mine then took it off and noticed the power came alot quicker and for the 5 - 7 they run factory it really wouldnt be worth it
so for all the effort the coin and the chance of a water leak in the plumbing it may not be worth it but if you do make sure there is a decent gap between the radiator and the cooler as mud can build up (for the front mount)

remebering that it will be fueled for air out of the turbo ..... at that temp
so unless you change fueling to take advantage of a denser air charge ... it will be leaner and boost will come on later so you will in fact .. more than likely lose power and your ex temps will drop as a refection

unless... you have a maf sensor or it has intake air temp compensation ...

ebay has very good w2a intercoolers for very cheap. $300 ish.

i have just had my fuel system rebuilt and my man said hell do the fueling for me.zook did you have water or air /air if water have you still got it.

I think the intercooler must have been too small for the volumne of air because an intercooler should not cause lag

was air to air and was very big
it was on my 13bt they have a top mount turbo that feeds strait across the top to the intake manifold
with the cooler it had twisty pipes to the front thru the cooler then back again

was far less responsive with it

you only gain power with air /air intercooler with decent boost and even then it wont be much

if your doing it to reduce the intake temps at high revs with lots of boost for long periods then maybe its worth doing
but for a standard motor doing 5-9 psi that ya mite feed the fat 6 or 7 times in short bursts i wouldnt bother

So why do so many modern diesel engines use intercoolers?

why do so many new trucks have inderpendent front end suspension

i dont know but its not like the old motors 12ht,13bt,td42 etc dont do a good number of kms and they dont have em

I dont know what you did to yours but one thing I do know it was wrong.

I have a supercharger running through an intercooler and the boost is instant when I hit the switch.

The pyrometer temperature is reduced by 100C .

I run about 10lbs into the intercooler and you cant hold on to the pipe at that boost because it is too hot.

I would recommend fitting an intercooler to anyone because it is free power and does the motor good. Thats why the factory engineers do it.

il stay on the bench for this one but, my 13bt is intercooled(frontmounted) n seems to run sweetas, yet when i fitted a front mount to my wrx it was drastically lagger due to the length of the pipes, thats why rally cars run massive topmounts instead with water sprayers for power when they need it.topmounts seem to be the way to go but its up to you man, may have an old wrx topmount floating round if ya want it Rich

I understood rally cars put them up top to prevent stone/mud/whatever damage.

EVO's are more awesome than subies and their IC's are out front.

Had a 700x300x100 FMIC on the front of my mk4 supra (if you think your ic's are big.. you are wrong) and noticed sfa increase in lag.
