Looking to do an engine conversion on my Ln106 hilux next year and was wondering what costs were involved. i know its not as simple as slapping a new engine into an engine bay and everything working correctly. so far the things ive thought of are...
the engine with manifolds, turbos etc
Loom
ECU
the cost of a rebiuld including belts, gaskets, leads, spark plugs, oil, filters, everything being skimmed etc
gearbox adapter plates and bellhousing
crossmembers
engine mounts
driveshafts
diffs if gearing is wrong
larger radiator
clutch, pressure plate, flywheel
feul pump, tank, lines, injectors
brake upgrade to deal with more power
i konw i mustv missed some things but what kind of price am i looking at to do a conversion like this myself. and what have i missed?
thanks

you can kiss goodbye to some cash on exhausts and certification as well

This is what i came up with doing all the work myself (minus wiring and exhaust)
And thats not keeping Aircon.
Celsior 1UZ front bowl sump 404040pin ecu 1,500
may need Custom Sump $?
Flywheel 300
Bellhousing 1,000
Clutch 300
1UZ to Surf Engine mounts 300
Wiring 600
Log headers and Exhaust 500
Misc - PS Lines crossmembers 500
Cert 500
So "around" 5K is acheivable for a 1u coinversion, some of those are mates rates prices though and depandany on availability....

Yeah mate you'd be looking at $5k as a base figure doing all the work yourself

My clutch was nearly double that
Money doesn't go very far today. Redoing my rear diff at the moment and looking at close to 3K

All I am doing is fitting the latest ARB locker, Stronger housing, Bigger bearings, Yukon Ring and pinion and solid spacer.
Already have bigger stuff in the front diff
It all adds up $$$$$$
Want it done before my North Is trip in Oct
Cheers Richard

Thanks for the info. What would be the cheapest and easiest conversion? from what iv read the 3.8commy conversion sounds like it could be a good one to start offf with

I would hazard a guess that the main varience between engine swaps, i.e 1uz, Commy v6, 2jz or what ever will be the buy price of the motor.
All the rest will be largely the same.
You still need custom engine mounts
Still need adaptors
Still need expensive H/Quality clutch
Still need Wiring
Zaust
Then there's the hundred's of other things that pop up along the way and cost $$$$$$
I reckon just choose your engine and run with it, decided what it is that rocks the boat, and make it happen
They all have pro's and con's, I have seen Tim go through 3 v6's in his Hilux (they were all mint runner's), some dodgy fulla here in Hamilton has had to replace all his running gear with Cruiser stuff after his pretty much standard 1uz decided it liked to eat anything hilux related, 1 and 2jz driver's complain because everyone drive's to slowly on trip's because their trucks keep stalling or overheating as those motor's don't do much untill over half way on the rev counter
