terrano key lost
hi got an old terrano 2.7td 1990 lost the keys and no spre so before i rip and tear the ignition out of the car to get a key cut does antony know if there is code stamped either on the ignition itself or anywhere else. and does the door lock have the same amount of blades in it as the ignition? obviously the door lock is easier to get out but i have found in the past that on some cars that a key cut for the door wont neccesarily work in the ignition.....cheers
Re: terrano key lost
I don't know about Nissans, but I have use the VIN to get replacement keys from dealers at Jeep and Honda. Keys were cut by both the dealers without my key (I just wanted a spare done).

Drivers door lock has a code that a lock smith uses to cut your new key. If will be stiff as the old key has worn the gates in your lock and the key also wears, a dose of crc and it should all be good, eventually

Re: terrano key lost
where on the door lock is the code located.... is it a stamped number or sticker
cheers
cheers
Re: terrano key lost
It is stamped on the lock, usually on the arm that moves to lock and unlock the door. I'd take the doorlock out and take it to the lock smith, that way they can be sure the key will work in the lock.

Re: terrano key lost
Hi mate just got the door lock out and there is a number on the arm as you said 04042 would you or anyone else out there have an original key with the code on the key blade so i can check how many numbers there are on a key..... i was going to get a key cut last week and i was going to make a note of the number on my key but as usual you get side tracked and forget to do it..... its just that my number on the lock seems to have more numbers than i remember my key having...... obviously i am relying on the same memory that forgot to get the key cut but it doesn't look like the number i remember.
cheers
cheers
